Was wondering about what the costs were and some of the process behind it

I am following, I want to rip out a old flower bed in the back and put one in it's place. A buddy said he would do it BUT he's never done one before....so, needless to say, I'm out on that idea

We've got a few superintendents who post, so hopefully they can provide some guidance.

I would imagine to get it decent, you'd need a lot of time and a nice mower?

Are you talking about real grass or artificial turf?

Artificial.. I don't have the mower or time for upkeep on real grass.

We have a small mini 3 hole course at our farm. We actually did laser grade the greens ourselves and built them up with a sand. The greens were just never good. It was either too hot for the grass or it was getting killed by some organism or plant. It is still tons of fun. Would really need a professional water set up to work.
I would like an artificial green set up if it looked nice and had a good place for it. Not sure the ARB would allow it though.

There’s a Facebook group called Backyard Greens that shows some awesome examples. If you’re on FB.

My dad used to own a landscaping company many moons ago and did it for a few people

He said not a single one maintained it for more than a year….But this was back in the 80s so who knows now how much more manageable it is

Well, that was a 2 hour read. Envious, jealous, yet not envious nor jealous.

I just bought a 12x5 practice putting mat to put on my patio. For $300 on Amazon, it works well enough for me.

Built one about five years ago and then recently, tore it up. Caused some major drainage issues in my backyard and honestly, would not do it again. Cost was right at $10K.

YouTube

I've watched this video a few times. There's a lot of the time wasted in the video with him moving material around. But it's a really thorough video on the process. I have a 30X20 area I'm wanting to convert to practice green but it'll probably be another year before I get to it.

I put one in last summer and love it. Cost me about $7000 in materials, including color changing lights under cups.
