Nothing set in stone yet, but it looks like we might be starting our Cali trip by flying into San Fran.

We will have likely a full day, and possibly a half day the next day... looking for all recs.

The first day we will hit a San Francisco Giants game, then maybe a rooftop bar or good night spot after?

Again - Looking for all recs.

Combined with its 'vibe,' my favorite rooftop is El Techo in Mission. You have a very nice view of SF. Best views are at Cityscape on the rooftop of Hilton in Union Square. Expensive, but panoramic views are pretty wild.

There are quite a few cocktail bars around both, too.

With a half-day, you could walk Twin Peaks, Bernal Heights, Golden Gate Park, etc.

Most hotels are congregated together off Market and near Fisherman's Wharf. If you want to explore neighborhoods (i.e. Mission, Noe Valley, Richmond, Sunset, Haight, etc.), you'll probably need to Lyft/Uber.

Downtown SF has been a bit of a mess since COVID. I'm there pretty often for work, and don't feel totally unsafe around the homelessness and drug addicts, but it can be a bit unsettling - you'll see quite a bit throughout Tenderloin, SoMa and Mission. Neighborhoods tend to be fine, but you won't totally escape the weirdness.

Few random recommendations: State Bird, Kokkari Estiatorio, Swan Oyster Depot, La Taqueria, Burma Superstar (or Burma Love, if you don't want to go to Richmond), Begoni Bistro, and China Live.

Another few random recommendations: Madrone (gets very crowded as the night goes on - a lot of fun, though), Toronado (one of the better-known beer bars in the country), Trick Dog, and Ace's (been a couple times for Wisconsin games).

I have a reservation at State Bird Provisions in a couple of weeks. Pretty excited for it.

They only do reservations 30 days in advance .

Finishing two weeks there now...it's been pretty wet but lots of gaps in rain. Hotels either downtown or near SFO. BART trains and MUNI trollies make everything convenient. Best strolling parks are Golden Gate which is very large and beautifully landscaped, and The Presidio which is still transitioning from being an Army base. GG Park has two museum.

Best Rooftop is Top of the Mark Hopkins.

Neighborhood bar (tourists are rare)...Cole Street Tavern

Rent a bike and ride it over the Golden Gate Bridge and get a bite to eat in Sausalito.

Sausalito.

Dive into this more if anyone can?

I think we are looking at spending an entire afternoon there.... watched a few youtubes and it looks to be right up our alley as far as low key and relaxing.

Alcatraz if you've never done it before. I thought I wouldn't like it many years ago. But I did. My 20 something daughter (no pics) enjoyed it a few years ago. There is only one official website to buy tickets. Do not be fooled by the others and you need reservations and must buy shortly after the tickets go on sale.

Sausalito, Mill Valley and Tiburon are adjacent towns on the Bay with many cafes, shops, galleries, parks etc. There's a private bus service from the county (Marin) to SFO. If weather's nice go by ferry from SF.

See if you can tour the sales force tower and go up top. Tallest building west of the Mississippi.
