Sam Bush - mandolin, fiddle, guitar, vocals
Pat Flynn - guitar, vocals
Béla Fleck - banjo, guitar, vocals
John Cowan - bass guitar, vocals

they wrote “calling Baton Rouge” which Garth later covered to much fanfare, or so I am told

I don't think we should count "arranged" bands after they were all individually famous, like The Highwayman or The Travelling Willburys. Off the top of my head:

Return To Forever - S. Clark, A. Dimeola, L. White &
C. Corea
The Beatles
Blind Faith - E. Clapton, G. Baker, S Winwood, R. Grech
Allsion Krause & Union Station - take the top 4 of
Allison, J. Douglas, D. Tyminski & R. Block
The Who

All but Grech were already famous. They were definitely an "arranged" band.

If we are talking strictly musical talent this would be my 4.

I'm glad these geniuses are being recognized. It's the Beatles for me but AKUS is up there.

This is not true. They were the first to record it, but it was written by Dennis Linde.

I don't know about the argument, but I do know that Bela is holding that banjo like a weapon and is ready to kill you with it.
