Here are the grades IMHO. A higher grade does not mean someone is a better player, just grading the season he had.

Jonas - B. Defense was worse, but there were games it looked like only one person could stop him: Willie Green. Always plays hard and is available - 79 games played.

Hayes - C-. Showed flashes of being a rotation player, combined with periods of time being buried on the bench. A real enigma.

Hernangomez - D+ - every now and then a solid game filling in, out of the rotation at end of season.

Nance - C. Blame it on injury, but he was totally ineffective in the latter part of the year.

Zion - D. All-star player when he feels like playing. Clearly quit on the team at the end.

Ingram - B+. Took another step forward as focus of the offense. Only thing preventing an "A" was his longer-than-expected recovery from injury. Only played 45 games.

Murphy - A+. 50-40-90 guys don't grow on trees, and Murphy is almost there.

Jones - B. Offense started slow but seemed to improve as season went on. Effort is always there.

Marshall - C+. Always plays hard. Started out well, but play seemed to worsen as season went on. Not sure he is a rotation guy on a good team.

Richardson - C-. Midseason acquisition didn't shoot a high enough percentage on open 3s to justify his playing time.

Daniels - D. Early in the year, he looked like an absolute steal. But his confidence fell apart, and he didn't see a minute in the play-in game. Still very young, so I'm not giving up on him.

Lewis - D. Not in rotation often, didn't show enough to make me think he is an NBA player. He's a first-round bust.

Alvarado - C+. Was a star in a few games, but seemed to wear down before ultimately sustaining a season-ending injury. Pels badly missed his energy.

McCollom - B. Gutted it out with an injured thumb almost all season. Tends to play some hero ball, but his scoring was needed.

Willie Green - C-. Had to deal with more than his fair share of injuries, but his lack of flexibility and poor in-game adjustments cost the Pels a few games, including the season finale in Minnesota.

The only source telling me that players are angry with Zion are random folks on tigerdroppings. I'm sure they're all frustrated, but I haven't heard any Pelican saying Zion quit on the team

Great thread and solid write up

I mostly agree with those....some that I'd take slight exceptions with.

Dyson with a D is a bit harsh. I agree with your assessment otherwise, but the flashes he showed just on defense alone should make it better than a D IMO

CJ B is a bit too generous. Injuries suck and it's rather obvious that is why he had a down season, but they still happened so I think he gets a C

Not sure what I'd grade Zion and BI, but they'd probably get the same grade or something very similar. BI showed flashes of taking a leap. Zion showed he can lead this team to a top tier Western Conference team. Flip side, both missed too many games and both did not play in games they seemingly could have played in and cost us the postseason as a result.

I'd probably give both a C-. I just can't grade you much higher than a C when you play 29 & 45 games. I need to see more.

I'm way higher on Jose and way lower on CJ.

CJ gutted it out, but he played dumb. I don't like his style of play.

If you're injured, keep it simple and stop trying to play hero ball.

This is true, we haven't heard that.

But if we did hear quite a few reports that players and front office were frustrated with Ingram for similar things, I think it's fair to think players and the FO office may have been frustrated with Zion as well.

I'd go as far as to say if they were frustrated with BI missing regular season games but not Zion missing an elimination game for similar reasons, then there's probably something else to this story we're missing.

If it's really Zion vs Griff.

The players will side with Zion.

Maybe not Ingram but everyone else.

I just get the feeling BI doesn't like Zion.

C+ is fair on Jose IMO

Injuries are not his fault, but they kinda have to affect your grade. He shot the 3 better but overall didn't really improve his scoring efficiency. He was overall kind of the same player, I didn't see much improvement.

Agreed with shel that Dyson deserves better than a D. C- or C in my book. I also give CJ a C, maybe a C+, since he did play through injury, but he was running the offense far too frequently for my liking.

Willie Green gets a D- for me. Post Zion injury, he was completely lost. The team lost most 3rd quarters as he couldn't adjust and seemed hell bent to go with his preconceived notions on rotations. JV getting zero shot attempts in the 3rd last night is one glaring example of this. He is a really really poor in-game coach and it cost us a top 6 seed and, ultimately, elimination.

He was way better on offense imo.

C- OVERALL

For team.

For a team that was 10 games under .500 last year, and finished this season 2 games over .500, I would say the improvement is there.

I continue to re-iterate to attempt to stop the "stunting of growth" of a franchise or a group of young players...because fanbases get impatient....but it can be done. The Pels have great young assets and other assets that they can move and be successful with. Shake things up and who knows where they'll end up.

I'll sit on my similar projections for this franchise and say that they will be a middle tier seed next season and win the 1st round playoff matchup...
