A livestream shows the panic Sunday when a fight between a coach and a parent in the field house parking lot sparked chaos. One of the parties went to his car and got a gun, causing everyone to run. Police say no shots were fired. No one was injured.

AAU basketball has to be the worst when it comes to parents fighting in youth sports

This was in the early 90s, but I was at a Plaquemine vs McKinley basketball game. Plaquemine was really good for several years in a row and McKinley had a good team, they were in the same district so they built up a rivalry.

The game was for district champs. They gym was packed, they put the game on the tv in the cafeteria, but could only allow so many people in because of the fire marshal. I wasn't even in HS yet, I think I might have been in 8th grade.

Plaquemine wins the game and some of the McKinley fans started getting into it with Plaquemine fans. I was with my brother and one of his friends.. seems like maybe one other person. We get out the gym and hear "Pow! Pow!" We take off. Im going as fast as I can in my chair, we get to the vehicle, get in and sped off (we had an area we parked in that there was a way to avoid traffic).

Anyway, come to find out, dude from McKinley was pissed because they wouldn't let him in the game.. He stayed in the parking lot and started shooting when people started coming out. A bullet hit the windshield of someone I knew and they had to get it replaced. And I think one of the seats as well.

If that shite happened today it would be a story making its rounds through social media. Im not making an excuse for it, but there has always been stupid fricks doing stupid shite.

How have you not realized you can tell the same stories without using 6 paragraphs and 500 words

“Similar shite happened to me at a 90s McKinley game. This isn’t new.”

I was playing in a gym at a Dallas city park when this happened. Someone talked the shooter down, so no one got shot, but the cops had already been called, and he was arrested. It really distracted one of the guys on my team.

Is it at all possible for you to make a single post without the words "I/Me/My/Myself"?

My niece plays travel basketball (this is her first season doing so) and from what I’ve seen it’s definitely a different level than park ball, both on and off the court. Some parents are way more intense and definitely get carried away at times. I’ve never seen anything close to this happen in the games I’ve attended, but given how seriously some of the adults take it, I’m not surprised that this could happen.

I was playing at a Dallas facility when shots rang out right next to the courts. You could tell knew what was up bc about 10 women hit the pavement immediately while about 20 stood around texting and talking about what the sound was.

Finally had an incident at my sons game/tourney. Was the game before ours.

The fact that there is zero security for all the $$$ that’s paid to the folks putting these on is ridiculous. These should all have an off duty cop there.

This dispute was over the fricking CLOCK. Basically a dad from each team is asked to come to the scorers table. One keeps the book and one runs the clock. I’ve already seen two dust ups.

This one a woman in the stands mouths off about a mistake made on the clock. Instead of checking with the officials to see what she was talking about and fix it. He goes with “frick you bitch. You can do better get the frick down here or shut the frick up!”

He’s asked to leave and storms out threatening to punch a whole gym. Lol.

How much does a cop cost for a day? How much do teams pay to be there?

I worked the clock the next game. The other team sent a woman to work the other side. “I’ve never done the book. Can I do the clock instead?” I said sure. I rather the book anyway. It was the same woman. Lol. She was completely pleasant. We both fricked up. I missed writing a team foul and she gave her sons team a point. We both caught and confessed our mistakes and handled it. Letting the refs know we were idiots and are fixing it. Both coaches too. Simple.

You don’t have a thread until OweO chimes in with his dissertation.
