The article in question.

quote:

By the time they enter kindergarten, most American children believe that being "thin" makes them more valuable to society, writes journalist Virginia Sole-Smith.

Fat people cost more.

quote:

"We as a culture have really zeroed in on weight, because we think that's the piece that we should be able to control. But not only do we not have very much control over weight, it also won't fix anything else,"

We don't have "very much" control over our weight.

quote:

But what we're talking about with thin privilege is the fact that if you are someone who can wear "straight" sizes [0 to 14], you can walk into The Gap or Target or whatever and find your size easily on the rack. ...

quote:

It means when you go to the doctor, your weight is not the first and often only thing that's talked about. It means you can sit on an airplane and not worry about buckling the seatbelt. You can go to a restaurant without worrying, Will they have booths that are too tight for you to get into while the chairs have arms that are too tight? Physical spaces are built for your body. And whatever your own personal struggles might be ... your body is not a target for the world in the way that someone in a bigger body is.

Shape the world to fit me!

quote:

I identify as "small fat." I wear like a 16, 18, 20, and so I can order clothes — mostly only online, not so much in-person stores — but I can get clothes that fit my body pretty easily

quote:

The thin ideal is definitely a white ideal.

quote:

When we trace the history of modern diet culture, we really trace it back in the United States to the end of slavery.

quote:

So celebrating a thin white body as the ideal body is a way to "other" and demonize Black and brown bodies, bigger bodies, anyone who doesn't fit into that norm. So this is really about maintaining systems of white supremacy and patriarchy ... I think a lot of us are really working to divest from those ideas, but we haven't given ourselves permission to stop dieting or to accept our weight wherever it might fall.

quote:

Ozempic is a perfect example of how anti-fat bias drives us in the opposite direction. Because when they realized that weight loss was a side effect of this drug for some folks and that they could deliver what looked like really dramatic weight loss with minimal side effects, they immediately started marketing in that direction very aggressively.

quote:

If you start to take a more relaxed approach and let these foods be part of your family's life, and make sure your kids have regular access to them, and you don't judge how many cookies they take, ... you let it play out. You will see that these become foods your kids can enjoy, but in a much less fraught way. And you'll find there are some that they actually don't even like that much. And they're leaving the bag in the pantry for weeks and not touching it or they're excited to see it for a few days and then the novelty wears off. It's a completely different way of engaging with food. I think that's one of the pieces of this that feels the most radical to a lot of folks because it's a level of permission we've never given ourselves.

I get it now, Bill Gates wants to make kids and adults so fat they explode and it reduces the population.

Ironic that this is found under the "Health News" section of their website. Saying "eat whatever you want and it's racist if you don't celebrate my fatness as beauty" isn't healthy living.

As someone that was fat for multiple formative years, I’ll state that this article is written by a weak minded individual

There is probably a small amount of people that have actual injuries and issues that take weight out of their control. For most people, they can help control their weight by eating less, working out more, and not being in denial. Obviously skinny doesn't mean healthy, but it's tough to look at obese and think those people are doing well.

That's a lot of mental gymnastics to justify being fat.

They aren't doing well.

I gained 48lbs between 47 and 52. My blood pressure and cholesterol went up to levels that the doc wanted to put me on meds. Instead, I did what I never should have stopped doing. I started excercising and fasting again. Now back down to where I should have been. Blood pressure is good and so is cholesterol. Amazing how that worked.

This is proved when one looks back at all those fat POW's from WWII.

Try buying a size 30 belt (in men's) and get back to me.

I'm in a similar boat, I'm working on losing weight because I'm sick of always feeling sick.

This was talked about on the fitness board a few days ago. The only treadmill these people are getting on is the pharmaceutical treadmill. They'll drop weight while they're on ozempic/wegovy because it literally won't let them eat more, then they'll balloon right back up because they didn't change anything. Keep that fat mindset tho

Fasting helped me a lot. 3 meals a day is just too much. I do 2 at most now, but most days I only do one.

And water. Drink lots of water. Cut out sodas and sugary drinks completely. And this is really bad, but limit you alcohol.

You can see this new bullshite "debate" starting to lather on social media. The "exercise is fat phobic" Insanity is coming to every online debate near you soon.

I used to think shaming people who thought these idiotic things was the correct approach. But all that does is breathe life into the monster until it's a bonafide "crisis." These progressive pieces of shite are relentless in their pursuit to ruin everything on earth under the guise of making sure every personal issue is accommodated so as to avoid the dreaded act of self improvement.
