I have to wonder?: How much acid did he have to do with Janis Joplin, to start writing that damn good?

The Pilgrim: Chapter 33 as sung by Willie (I think Kris still doing backing vocals)

That's a good cut from the legend.

Golden gloves champion boxer.

Smoker of weed.

Writer of lyrics and melodies

Member of the Highwaymen

Actor

Fan of Metallica

A renaissance man that is a little bit too obscure given his stature and contributions.

I remember always remarking the Venn diagram of these might be composed solely of KK.

My all time favorite. I take great pride in being in the top 0.01% of his listeners on Spotify every year. Saw him at Tunica in 2017.

The one major chink in his armor is the voice. It's really just not memorable or very good. He's the glaring outlier in The Highwaymen.

Yes, but when I was a kid and first heard him sing I told my Dad that guy sucks. My Dad, who had opera training and was a great singer told me 'you will understand it when you get older, Kristofferson is a g enius'. As usual, my Dad was correct.

Definitely a songwriting genius.

Really good song writer, terrible singer.

The story of how he got Johnny Cash to record "Sunday Coming Down" is epic......... LINK

The recorded studio versions of his songs actually sound pretty good imo. His live performances were quite poor.

I was exposed to him by my dad too because we listened to his greatest hits CD in the car. I remember thinking Beat the Devil was utter crap, he wasn’t even singing most of it. When I was about 16 though I realized how brilliant he was and became somewhat obsessed with him.

A bunch of his songs I like that people have probably never heard of
Never Gonna be the Same Again
The Taker
Breakdown (Long way from home)
Best of all possible worlds
From the bottle to the bottom
Billy Dee
Living legend

Amazing. Did not know he was that old.

He’s older than everyone in “modern” music. After Buddy Holly era guys.

Older than Bob Dylan. Older than probably every Beatle.

I believe he also wrote Please Don't Tell Me How the Story Ends

One of his greater songs, gives me the chills.

Joan Osborne at the Opry is my favorite version

I would also point out in Bocephus' "All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down", Kris gets the walk-off name check ("and Kris he is a movie star and he's moved off to LA"). I would say that is mad respect in a tune that invokes George, Waylon and Johnny as well.
