I'm a total novice when it comes to yard maintenance. I don't know the names of the weeds in question but there's some areas in my back yard that are maddening becuase of them. I've used the standard broadleaf weed killer you can get in stores to little avail. I do have some brush killer (which has definitely worked in the past where applied) and some roundup that kills everything. Obviously I know not to spray either of those in the yard because ti'll kill the grass. however, I do have some tiny paint brushes so I was curious what woudl happen if I dabbed the brush in some of those killers and just painted the weeds. Mayeb that's dumb, idk. But it brings me to my question in the title. If I were to do that, would it get down itno the soil and kill the grass anyway? Or woudl it only affect the root and just kill the weed itself?

Yes I know it would be a little time consuming. Yes I'm sure there are dozens of products that are specifically targeting. But I have all the above on hand so was just curious.

Brushing herbicide on is a common way to selectively kill weeds, not a bizarre method.

Are the weeds vines? Got pictures? If it’s bushkiller vine, you’re SOL.

Glad to hear it!

NO they aren't viunes, whic is another part of my hesitation. Based on some googling, the weeds I have are going to be nutsedge or dallisgrass or crabgrass maybe...I really have no idea and am not good at trying to pick them out from pictures.

One area of the backyard had an issue with what I beleive I've googlged to be wineberry, it's a thorny purplish looking thing and the brush killer definitely worked on that. But my current issue is a simple standard green type of weed mised in wiht teh grass.

Post a picture when you have a chance. Ronk or Crawdude can help identify the weeds and tell you what to use to kill it. I know the point of your post is to use what you have on hand currently, but it’s a whole lot easier to order some herbicide online that you can spray the whole yard with vs brushing roundup on each weed individually - especially for any sort of sedge. That sounds brutal.
