made me rescind my comment about him owing his Bear Bryant award to Vince Young. I thought it was a sound decision.

he had a couple good defenses at LSU, with nick saban running the majority of it

so-so defense with the dolphins

2 good years at auburn

so-so defense with texas

he isnt a main recruiter, he's pretty young, he's really really emotional

I think Muschamp is a charismatic leader of the Texas D in a conference dominated by disguistingly high numbers on offense.

Mistake for Will. Mack Brown is only like 57 years old and may coach another 25 years. Is Will suppose to take his name out of consideration for any other jobs until finally Brown retires? Assistants must strike while the iron is hot.

Texas could make almost any coach in the country leave their current job. You'd have to be at a top 7-8 program in the country to not want to leave for Texas.

So Texas is going to take a shot on some guy that has never been a head coach before?

P.S I don't think he'll stay there and wait out Mack Brown who has about 10 years left.

Dodds is old and will retire soon. When he goes, Mack will take his spot and Muschamp will take over coaching.

People here are very excited about him being successor because of his experience in the SEC. They think it gives him a recruiting edge as well as a pretty good resume to keep things moving.

Their defense seemed to handle Oklahoma, so I think it has been successful thus far.

It's a mistake for any school to name a successor years before the current head coach retires. What if Mack Brown decides to retire in 5 years, and at the same time, someone like Nick Saban or Urban Meyer ends up leaving his respective school? Are you going to tell me Texas would tell those two "no" and go with Muschamp? I think it's just a ploy to keep Muschamp around a little longer. I don't expect that he'll ever be the head coach at Texas. I also felt the same way about FSU/Jimbo Fisher when FSU made him the coach in waiting.

as for a head coach job, it is a mistake, but if he wanted to be a DC great pickup.

He's got 8 years left to learn the ropes with recruiting. He hasn't stayed anywhere long enough to really consider any of his defenses the best in the country. It's a good move for him b/c it pretty much guarantees he's got a job over the next 8 years at least. He'll be making $900K starting next season, which for a coordinator is extremely good.

It's a smart business decision on his behalf; and at this point, he's pretty much in the driver's seat. This move was a smart move by Brown because he didn't want any distractions later on down the road this season--he came out and said it.

Things aren't always what they appear to be. On the surface, this is a scenario that, if it plays out, could either be a huge success or an epic failure. On the other hand, the morale of the team, the stability of the program, and the equilibrium of UT football won't have much of a change.
