4th and 7

Here is my take. Obviously we sucked on D all night but LSU still had a great chance to win in the end regardless. Situation is 4th and 7 near the 50 yard line. I think the consensus is correct LSU should have gone for it 100%.
Why?
Because if you do not make it OM probably and would have scored on a 50 yard drive and we would have had more time on the clock to win the game. Instead we punt OM deep which eats up more of the clock on THE OM longer drive.
With the #1 offense in the SEC we punt which let them eat up more of the clock instead of the drive from the 50 yard line. Then LSU would have had more time to win the game in the end instead of 39 seconds. Coaches lost this game. I also feel like we would had made the 4th and seven in which the game is iced and LSU wins.

It was 4th snd 7, but yes we should have gone fir the first.

It was an all-around baffling decision.

Corrected, still would have gone for it.

3rd and 5 is where we fricked it all up. had we gained 2 yds instead of losing 2 i think we definitely go for it. A better call on third and we probably get a 1st down.

Really bad part is BK said he never even considered going for it there.

Never heard that, bothers me even more going into Missouri with that type of thinking.

Definitely should've gone given how our defense was playing. If you watch Ole Miss last drive, Lane was burning clock before they were even across the 50. He knew they'd get to where they needed to go so he was more focused on making sure they didn't give us the ball back with enough time to take it down the field.

It was a shite play call on third followed by a shite decision to punt it away when anyone with eyeballs and a functional brain knew Ole Miss was going to move the ball down the field and make the go ahead score.

Did they really think 30 yards of field position was going to make a difference considering Ole Miss was making its way through the defense like Swiss cheese?

I also think whats been lost in all of this is the 2 BS timeout we had to take early on, leaving us with only 1 when we really needed all three (or at least two).

Plenty of reviews on this that show there was nothing wrong with the call. Same play we ran against Bama last yr to win and it was WFO again. Ball was not thrown. Even if we were short 4th and 1 is better than 4th and 7.

Yep...this is the play that was a mistake. I don't know if they expected JD to be able to scramble for the yardage needed if no one was open or not. But having the play flow towards the sideline automatically compressed all the defenders to that side of the field and limited JD's choices and his ability to run for it if necessary. Just a bad call after what, for the most part, was a really good day for offensive play-calling.

yep i hated that we condensed the field there. all the wrs were on the right also. hell split a few guys to the left and then maybe it works with rpo. i wanted to see either a handoff to diggs or let jd scan the field from the pocket and run if no one was open...it worked all game

I didn’t like the second down call either.

We got our WR1 wide open, and our super accurate QB with a seemingly easy throw.

It could’ve been 4th and 15 and going for it would still have been the correct move with the way our defense was playing.

Punt, every time unless there is less than a minute left in game.

Easy, do you like your chances with the #1 offense in the SEC with 49 on the scoreboard already with the ball. Or punt and give OM one last chance to beat your arse. The coaches are the blame here, especially CBK. You cannot tell me the players wanted to punt instead.
