1) If you haven't, do Plitvice Lakes National Park. I can't believe people go to Croatia and don't see that.

Between Plitvice and Split you could stop in Trogir. Izletište Cvituša - Sanjkalište was a random restaurant in the middle of nowhere we ran into between Plitvice and Split that was really good.

2) In Split to eat, Villa Spiza and Bokeria were good. Also liked Restaurant Zrno Soli. You could do a day trip ferry ride to Zlatni Rat or head to Hvar, if you don't have time to stay on the islands. I do think you should visit at least one of the islands.

We stayed at Hotel Vestibule Palace. It's pretty small but you're in Diocletian's Palace. Short on amenities so not for every traveler.

3) I think 3 days in Dubrovnik may be pushing it, unless you're using it as a base for Mostar or something like that.

Restaurant 360 and Nautika were probably our favorites. If you take the gondola up, Restaurant Panorama is good enough meal to take in the view.

We stayed at Hotel Excelsior and enjoyed it.

If you're driving from Split to Dubrovnik, Omis is a cool town to stop about 30 minutes down the coast. I also researched a lot of beaches to stop at, and ended up choosing Plaza Duba. Tiny sign and you look like you're going down a cliff so don't drive fast or you'll miss it. Has a small cafe and is small and pretty.

I didn't have enough time to go into Bosnia but Kravica Waterfall seems like a cool stop.

If you were coming from Zagreb you'd have a few more points of interest to pop in on. I'll add everyone seems to rave about Istria in northwest Croatia but that's off your path as well.

You do not need to stay overnight in Kotor or Mostar. They are day trips. Kotor is beautiful. But you do the hike and then thats kinda it.

I would recommend Plitvice or other national parks in Croatia over Mostar.

Yes.

We enjoyed split the most. Dubrovnik can be done in 2 days.

Get a savvy, private boat driver and hit the islands near hvar. It was eye-opening and amazing. Beautiful coastlines and amazing bars...incredible food, drinks, and people. We definitely didn't know any of it existed outside of hvar

We have traveled all over and count that as one of the single best days of our travels.

Thanks all for some great tips!

FYI, we went to Croatia and Slovenia in 2019. Started at the coastal town of Opatija, then spent 2 nights outside of Plitvice National Park. Had always been a bucket list location and it was spectacular!

As others stated, make sure to incorporate Hvar into the itinerary with a day spent island hopping the Pakleni islands

Working on "fine tuning" the trip.

We need hotel suggestions in Rovinj, Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik. Want an easy spot to walk to sites. AC preferred as well as Wi-Fi. Maybe even breakfast. If you have some suggestions.

Thanks!

Went to Dubrovnik, Kotor and Mostar in April. We found great AirBnBs in all 3 locations with AC (that's a must for me, unless it's winter - can't sleep for crap if I'm hot).

Dubrovnik - highly recommend the boat over to Lokrum. We had perfect weather the day we went, but it was great.
Off the top of my head, we really enjoyed Pizzeria Castro for a late evening meal when arriving. Beer Factory Dubrovnik for some good local beers. Buza Bar for a quick drink and view just to say we went.
Cave Bar More was really cool and worth the Uber fare. Definitely walk the walls and all.
We did the tram up top before sunset. It was a bit pricey and the food was ok, but the view was worth it.

If driving from Dubrovnik to Kotor, definitely stop in Perast. Paid around €15 for someone to run us out to the island for 1/2 stop and it was really cool. Had a good lunch by the water as well. Beautiful little town.

We had planned to do the hike up in Kotor, but it started hailing like crazy right after we got there and didn't get much better before we left. That was disappointing, but still enjoyed Kotor.

Mostar is pretty small, but much different and really enjoyed it. You don't have to be there long to see it all. We stopped and did the short hike up at Medjugorje as well as stopping at Kravika Falls on the way from Kotor to Mostar. Enjoyed both.

Favorite meal was a place recommended by a local in Dubrovnik for our drive back to Dubrov from Mostar - Vila Koruna Restaurant in Mali Ston (really cool drive with a brand new bridge when taking that route btw).

Rushed review on phone now, but will try to think of more later.

Thanks! Thoughts on touring Bosnia in general? Wife is thinking day trip from Dubrovnik? Are there other locations one would want to visit in addition to Mostar?

We've been to Split, Kotor, and Dubrovnik. All pretty cool, all different. Find the hole in the wall bar in Dubrovnik. It's called the Buza Bar, it sits on a cliff outside the city wall.

We really just went straight to Mostar from Kotor, with the couple mentioned stops on the way. The drive was nice though and saw a lot of varied terrain. Plenty of clear signs of war time as well, including some very interesting small towns along the way.

Agree on Hvar, definitely make the trip. Dubrovnik is a good central location to take day trips to Kotor and Mostar. Be prepared to wait at the border crossings though.
