Has our education system been constructed as simply a means of producing obedient workers?

This documentary certainly seems to drive that home like none other I’ve seen, and if so, then do we really think for ourselves in society as a whole, or are we simply manipulated by the machine, and our thoughts are really their thoughts, our beliefs their beliefs, and our norms, values, and beliefs shaped through the machine that drives the new trend or beliefs of the day?
When you consider the curriculum and what people are being educated in today, is it really about educating people in the fundamental tools to succeed in the world, or an education in collective thought which simply makes for good worker bees who share the same thoughts in order to work as one, benefitting the powerful more than benefitting the individual?
The Educational Propaganda Machine
"Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world."
Nelson Mandela
“With the right education you can learn how to be a better human being”
Barack Obama
"I don’t want a nation of thinkers, I want a nation of workers"
John D Rockefeller
I’d love to hear your thoughts on if you think you have been manipulated, and if you think our society has been manipulated for the benefit of others and the machine rather than of yourself as an individual.
I personally believe this should be mandatory viewing for everyone, but especially parents and people who are currently being “educated” and also the rest of us who’ve been through this system in order to see how much of what we think comes from being educated, and how much from being indoctrinated and programmed.

George Carlin summed it up when he said they want you just smart enough to drive the truck or work the assembly line/desk job but dumb enough to never question the system as a whole. Welcome to the Machine. Another brick in the wall.

It’s been that way for over a century.

Where have you been? It’s all right, we know where you been.

That quote just shows you how political and economic elites view the average American.

Yes, and IMO there's nothing really wrong with that. It's necessary for a functioning society. You need worker drones.
That being said, the people who have the ability to recognize it and think outside the box are the ones who generally get outsized rewards. That part is on you.

It produces good workers, good voters, and good robots.

Yes and it’s not a left or right issue because they both bow down to corporate interests

Yeah, the system does. Without them, the system couldn’t exist, but not so sure that’s necessarily a good thing. Good for the system, but not really for the individual.

Probably. But I don’t think people here want to open the conversation for a John Dewey progressive education that liberates citizens.

I recognized this as a teenager. It was the first part of my realization of how dumb adults were and how untrustworthy government and society in general could be.

What was the documentary’s suggestions on how to improve education?

When you realize systems we're set up to minimize humanity it changes the perspective quite a bit. Most of what we're taught is against our nature.

Public education has always been about producing laborers. Read “A Jeffersonian Education” it’s why we homeschooled our young ones.

The system creates people that can recall facts or follow orders. Or the ones that fail are on the government tit. Either way the powers that be win.

Of course.
Just look at this board to see how effective it is. Step outside of the group think and watch the herd swarm to attack.

Yes.
We no longer consider what it means or what it takes to achieve “the good life”.
I’ve thought, read, and written a lot about this over the past couple of years.
Gave up teaching last year after nine years in the profession.
Largely because I was not able to successfully teach the importance of the good life much less the means to arrive there.
Though many students were still impacted and they have written me to share about it.
Edit to add:
I’m of the Ancient Greek to CS Lewis school of “we need to instruct students on what is good.” So morality and ethics is a big part of it, and that hasn’t been allowed in public schools in many decades.
See The Abolition of Man by CS Lewis and Dallas Willard on the disappearance of Moral Knowledge.
Instead, American culture is totally therapeutic, which has translated to “the individual cannot be wrong.”
But yes, capitalism is another aspect of it to where we aim to merely produce productive members of society.
