Early stages of planning of 2025 Mardi Gras break ski trip with a decent size group of all ski levels.
Best options for large terrain and cool town?

Sounds like a great trip!
For Mardi Gras specifically, I recommend Garmisch-Partenkirchen. This place is a ton of fun for Mardi Gras (or fasching, as they call it). It’s not the largest ski terrain in Europe, but it’s plenty large, has held world championships there, has great places to eat and drink on the mountain (at night they do hut-to-hut where people ski from spot to spot to drink beer and gluhwein, fasching costume parties, and a really cool village. You’d also fly in and out of Munich, which is a great city.
Switzerland is much more expensive than the other alpine countries but obviously offers great skiing.
France has some great resorts. We like Les Arcs a lot. Huge terrain and amazing food all over the place. I had some of the best fondue of my life in a little hut on the mountain next to an igloo that doubled as a bar.

What are your thoughts on Val d’isere for a family ski trip?

Take a look at Ski Circus. You can stay in 3 different places and ski the same area.

The Freeride World Tour will be in Fieberbrunn from March 8-18.

I have stood exactly where they drop off of the Wildseeloder. I can tell you that these guys are crazy.

Perhaps not technically the best, but Latemar was my favorite. Great snow, friendly people, beautiful area.

Zermatt, Switzerland.
Take the lift up to the various levels of the Klein Matterhorn for skiing.

I haven’t been there, but it’s got a ton of terrain and a lot more winter adventure activities than just skiing. I’ve heard it’s a lot of fun and a great mountain. The only downside is it’s probably a 2.45-3 hr drive from Geneva. BUT… worth it, I’m sure!
