Looks like wife and kids have decided on Blue Ridge for our summer vacation destination. This will be kind of a laid back vacation but what are some “must do/see” locations to venture to in Blue Ridge?

We are currently still looking at different cabins to stay preferably on some type of water to keep boys occupied (14 and 11yrs old) while there.

Any info will be appreciated!

If you have a boat, bring it.
Renting a pontoon boat is fricking expensive. easily $1k a day after everythign is said and done.

There's hiking trails all around the area.
I'd always recommend Amicolola Falls. Beginning of the Appalachian Trail, and a rigorous hike up too many damn stairs.

You can go rafting the Occoee, but you'll have to lie and say your 11 year old is 12. Tennessee law says you have to be at least 12 to go white water rafting.

Spending some time in Helen is nice. There's a mountain coaster and some putt putt if your boys are into that, and you can go tubing down the river there as well.

I find Blairsville is a bit more central to all the activities in that area, and Lake Nottelly is just as nice as Blue Ridge, and you'll likely find cheaper options and more options on the water on Lake Nottelly. There's more flat ground around Lake Nottelly so there's more cabins with lake access, where as Lake Blue Ridge has a lot more mountain cabins overlooking the lake.
My 12 and 10 year old boys can swim and fish off the pier on the lake all day. Most places will have kayaks and other water stuff to use.
I'd rather be on the water than overlooking it, and so would my kids.

Not being glib, but there are numerous threads on Blue Ridge you can search.

Amicalola Falls is a must see. Lake Blue Ridge for boating or swimming. Tubing on the Toccoa River.

Nantahala River for a more calm rafting experience than the Ocoee.

Looks like we will be staying in McCaysville at the end of June.

The cabin has Fightingtown River behind it. I’ll post back when we return.

Helen is an old town. I skip those places after hitting a few.
