Don’t get me wrong, but as a City fan I love Vinny. Was my favorite player for a long time. But I don’t know about this.

Is this like Notre Dame hiring Gerry Faust(some of you young ‘uns may have to look that up)? Or more like Florida hiring Billy Napier?

Anyway, I wish him all the best and hope he succeeds, except when he plays City.

I wouldn’t say Napier. Honestly it’s probably more like hiring Jason Kidd or something

The road to Kompany was full of twists & turns. Bayern waited a while to get eventual "thanks but no thanks" replies from the likes of Alonso, Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick and even Tuchel after he nearly reached the CL final.

In the end, the old guard bosses like Rummenigge and Hoeness leaned toward bringing back Hansi Flick (who could have also turned them down again), but they're letting Sporting Director Max Eberl get his choice and he'll live or die with the Kompany hire.

It's extremely risky on one hand, and Bayern could be re-booting with a 4th manager in the last 5 years if it blows up. On the other hand, there's a ton of complacency and lack of leadership in the locker room with guys like Neuer and Muller leaving soon, and Kompany has been very direct/pragmatic (i.e. not putting up with whiny bullshite) thus far as a manager.

I don't think this will be similar to the groundbreaking Alonso hire at Leverkusen but when just about everyone on your list tells you no, you have to take a calculated risk and go with someone who will bring some fresh ideas.

The most recent Transfermarkt value charts have like 2 players on Bayern's entire squad on the rise (Musiala & Pavlovic I think) and all others are trending downward. That's probably not a good sign for the next few years. It'll be interesting to see how the Kompany experiment turns out.

The only thing that would kinda worry me as a Bayern fan is that if he’s successful, wouldn’t City come calling after Pep leaves? And he’d surely leave for City

Or I guess City would probably be able to get a more proven/successful manager no matter how good Kompany does at Bayern next year

But has he coached players as big as at Bayern?
Players who have had better careers than he has.

I think Vinny can put his career up against anyone’s. At one point, he was arguably the best defender in world football.

I do not disagree.

I don’t know what type of people Bayern players are in the locker room.
I have read Neuer and Muller backed Tuchel.
Both have one champions league and World Cup.

One is the captain. One is vice captain and arguably one of Bayern’s greatest academy/one team player.

And have played for a few top level coaches who have won champions league as a manager (Pep, Ancelotti, Tuchel, van Gaal, Heynckes, Hitzfeld?).

Will they put up with. Young coach(Neuer is older than him)
With no champions league trophy or World Cup trophy and just got relegated once they lose a couple games.

Reminds me of when Bayern hired another up and coming young coach with limited experience.

Nagelsmann didn’t but up with bullshite and fired GK coach Tony Tapalovic.

Neuer got pissed he fired his coach/friend and Bayern then responded by firing Nagelsmann who was undefeated in championship league at the time

FYI. Im not arguing with you. I’m enjoying the discussion. And welcome any further discussion/insight
