Let me first start off by saying I love all sports. College Football is my favorite followed by the NFL. I understand (for the most part all rules for all sports). I started getting interested in soccer recently because my nephew plays for local team. That being said I never understood stoppage time. Like the whole 90 minutes you can score and beat the other team. However, stopage comes and anyone can come back and win because it last for like ten more minutes! It doesn't make sense! You could be the team winning for the entire game but lose because that extended stoppage time til like ten minutes? Lol I don't understand.

The World Cup stoppage time with like 10-15 minutes was a bit outrageous but adding 5-7 minutes due to injuries, subs and other stoppages makes sense and helps limit tDark arts.

The clock never stops, so time is added at the end for previous pauses in the game for things like subs, injuries and time wasting. It’s pretty simple and logical.

Imagine how bad Concacaf would be if there was no stoppage time

There would be Panamanians and Hondurans falling over everywhere wasting time in a 1-1 game.

Concacaf
Mexico giving a tequila tasting on the pitch to convince the ref to let the clock run with no stoppage time

Honestly the shite housing of certain countries would go through the roof

no, what doesn't make sense is the concept of timeouts in american sports. its no different than taking a test but you can 'call timeout' during the test to check the answers on your calculator if you forgot something. if you studied like you should, then there's no need to sell yourself short and check the answers. likewise in pro sports, team's practice and prepare for a competitive match...so timeouts are a lazy and unnecessary idea. time does not stop in the real world and should not be 'paused' like its a damn video game.

stoppage time is the only good way to deal with floppers and time wasting in the sport.

When implemented correctly I have no issue with stoppage time but stopping the clock during injuries, subs, PKs, post goals etc... would accomplish the same the thing. Stoppage time is definitely not "the only good way" and it can lead to controversy when poorly applied by incompetent/corrupt/bias referees.

If you eliminate stoppage time but don't stop the clock for stoppages, you will get all sorts of delaying bullshite.

If you eliminate stoppage time and do stop the clock for stoppages, you will get ads during the game, which will eventually totally ruin the experience of watching the game (like with college football).

Id be okay with stopping the clock for out of bounds, subs and injuries. And usually no more than 1 minute of stoppage. You never really get the correct added stoppage and it usually favors one team over the other if it’s too little or too much. That being said it would be heavily scrutinized ticking off a few seconds here and there. It would definitely cut down on the rolling around and faking injuries, nothing really to gain.

I don't know if stoppage time should be nixed, but the huge pitfall of a continuous clock is time wasting / faking injuries. Both of which go against the spirit of the game. I do wish that there was a way to manage the clock better and take out any incentive to waste time and fake injuries. Stopping the clock during certain times would do that.

Why would they need ads? They don't run ads during downtime in soccer already. Nothing would change, other than the clock stopping for a moment. But the game would go on the same if you weren't looking at the clock.

I wish they would crack down on this in the worst way. It’s embarrassing and is a plague on the sport. I understand it’s a slippery slope, but guys going down if there is any contact at all (and sometimes none) is absurd.

They don’t use the yellow for diving nearly enough. But I would even support a red if you deliberately go down in the box with 0 contact all you have to do is confirm it in VAR.

Of course they’ve made a mess of the little they use VAR already so lord knows what a shite show that’ll be.

I’m actually surprised nobody has tried the split screen 10-15 second ad yet for while play transitions upfield. Everyone kinda doesn’t realize how much time is dedicated to slow monotonous pace.

On topic:

Pause the clock while it’s out of bounds or stopped for a FK/card/GK/CK etc. until it’s back into play. It’s not hard, just needs a diligent scorekeeper.

You don’t really need a distinct blow the whistle, end the game when it hits midnight. It’s never been a part of the game. I like the idea of one last possession, where once you hit :00s, play continues until the defense gets the ball back to mid-pitch.

Where the game crawls to a halt is when VAR has to look at 5 angles of a play, where the ball took seven bounces, and it was bounce #5, where it grazed an arm that was unintentionally but naturally there, but bounced the ball in, but we can’t determine whether it was naturally there, so let’s rule it no goal
