Specific, but maybe useful boat tip

I’ve owned my boat for about 7 years, and I’ve been through at least 4 sets of transom straps. It has a lip on the bottom of the transom with little notches cut that you can bend for “trim tabs” and the lip cuts the straps. I bought a set of ratcheting transom straps this year to replace the last ones that got cut and came up with the idea of putting seatbelt shoulder pads over them to keep them from getting cut. I’ll attach a couple pictures. Maybe this will help someone if anyone else has had this problem. It’s specific, I know.

Nice fix but it looks like the trailer is maybe too short for the boat. Doesn’t seem like the traps should have to go back under the back of the boat like that.

had the same issue on my aluminum boat I cut a piece of fire hose I got from the fire station and solved it forever

That looks like it works well, but they also make a strap that attaches to the trailer on each side of the boat towards the back and goes over the sides. No sharp corners for the strap to come into contact with. Or you could just use a ratchet strap.

Maybe so, but I had my boat custom built by prodigy and I can’t see them giving me a trailer that’s too short for the boat. A longer trailer would be more money, more mark up, and more money in their pocket. But it’s definitely possible I guess.
And to the guy that said fire hose, that’s a SOLID idea. I’m a firefighter, so I will definitely be replacing these seatbelt covers with a piece of old fire hose.

Why is your boat hanging off the back of the trailer?

You may be able to move the tongue of your boat forward on the trailer so the hull fits all the way on the boards

I think you mean the winch post, but yes I would recommend doing that.

Your trailer isn't set up right. Loosen the U bolts holding the winch post and slide it forward a couple of inches until the back of the boat is flush with the back of the trailer the way God intended.

I’m glad I posted because from the responses I learned something new. I’ve been fighting those transom straps for almost 7 years now. I’m going to move my winch post forward this evening when I get home. Thanks for the responses!

Do you have a picture of your boat on the trailer from the side?

Just this one, which is actually a prime example of what I’m talking about because there’s a ratchet strap as a temporary transom strap lol

Yea definitely slide your winch post up. I bet you have almost zero tongue weight. Does your hitch rattle and clunk a lot when pulling your boat?

That last pic is perfect.
The trailer may not have been set up wrong, but the weight of the boat and motor may have slowly worked the winch post backwards over time. Slide it forward about 6-8". You can see the boards sticking out under the bow of the boat about the same distance as your overhang off the rear.

More your winch post up. Does your boat sway a lot while pulling it? Lack of tongue weight will do that.

No it pulls great. I took it on a few 4+ hour trips this spring and it doesn’t give me any problems. I do plan on moving the winch post forward though. I wanted to do that yesterday but had too much going on to mess with it.

Move your spare up too or the front of your boat might slap it when it comes off the bow bumper at some launches

Big boat manufacturers do that all the time, especially surface drive boats, they'll sell you a 18' boat with a 17 foot trailer and half the time people are so excited to get it they dont notice it hanging off the back a few inches. Could always move the front roller support on the trailer up further if possible and put boat buckles.
I feel your pain I bought a used one not knowing a lot and mine does that, havent had a chance or cared enough to move the front bar on the trailer up closer to the hitch but I dont go far with it trailered so I ratchet it at the back.
