Head referee in US/Uruguay game

I have never in my life seen such bias and or incompetence. Anyone else watching this?
It’s call after call.
Most egregious was when he whipped out a yellow card and blew the whistle then Uruguay kept on playing and he decided to just ignore the whistle and yellow card and let play keep going because they had a breakaway. Unreal.

He gave a US player a Yellow Card after he was fouled by an Uruguay player.

Oh. Guess we’re eliminated anyway. Back to not caring.

USMNT has a lot more to worry about right now than the officials though

Clearly. Should’ve never brought Greg back.

Bold strategy for the US to host the World Cup so we wouldn’t have to sweat actually qualifying for it

That hero saw us play against Panama and decided he must get us a new coach.

Yeah I really question whether the ref had an agenda. Was there even a bad call that went against Uruguay?

Forreal. It was a blessing in disguise. Not that it would have mattered had we won, but the loss was the final nail in the coffin. Probably needed to lose for the sake of the program.

This has been my gripe. Everyone yelling that the ref is just incompetent. If he’s incompetent then the bad calls would go both ways. They simply didn’t. Uruguay had 36 fouls and one card for the entire tournament. USA had 24 and 7 cards. Then you could say well some are tactical vs small fouls and some deserve a card. Fair point but I watched 3 different plays where we got taken out on a build up/ break away with no card. One of which was a possible red tackle against us and WE got the card. Did we “deserve” to advance? No, we blew it against Panama, but even then there were some very bad calls against us (additional time being 4 minutes when 9 would have been too little, the challenge on turner not carded and then us carded immediately after). Uruguay could have easily had 3+ yellows to their back line before the half, and that does change a lot with how they have to defend. In fact, never once in the Panama or Uruguay game did we commit a foul where I thought it was a possible yellow and we DIDNT get a card. And plenty of times the other team didn’t get one on a textbook yellow tactical foul. Two things can be true, we didn’t deserve to advance, and the ref was biased against the USA in the Uruguay game

Since three countries are hosting do all three automatically qualify?
I hate that they are expanding the field

1. Yes
2. Agreed. Qualification should mean something (even if not much). Good teams should miss the World Cup if they perform poorly in qualification. This now looks like it will be a thing of the past.

I may be the least qualified person to weigh in on this haha
My post was like 96% snarky troll bc of how poorly the USMNT has been over a long period of time.
Rinse repeat of people getting excited and then the team just lays egg after egg.

I forgot who it was on but one of the Uruguayan defenders straight up tackled one of our guys from behind like he was a DB for the Chiefs and no card was given

Yeah I just love the drama of it. Italy winning the Euro then MISSING the World Cup.

This Reddit post really deserves its own thread but it’s insane the ratio of fouls to cards of the CONCACAF compared to CONMEBOL teams. It’s literally impossible for this to be coincidence. The officials were intentionally favoriting CONMEBOL, and I can take a few gue$$e$ why.
