Made for just $10 million, American Pie was released on July 9, 1999 and went on to gross over $235 million and become a billion dollar franchise, continuing with three big screen sequels and four straight-to-DVD movies. It was the sleeper hit of 1999 that no one saw coming, especially the studio, Universal, which sold off the foreign rights in an attempt to recoup its budget. (Big mistake. Huge.)

Unlike its fellow '99 teen comedies (She's All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, etc.), American Pie wasn't afraid to talk about sex, with the film focusing on five best friends' quest to lose their respective virginities before the end of high school. (Warm apple pies do not count.)

Featuring a cast of mostly unknown actors, it launched the careers of Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Chris Klein and Tara Reid among others. Plus, it cemented Jennifer Coolidge's status as pop culture's ultimate movie MILF.

Yep, I still remember how hard my entire theater was laughing during that scene.

I was 12 years old when my brother took me to see it in the theatre. That scene was probably the most incredible thing I'd seen at that point in my life, and after it was over my brother's friend turned to us and just said "Was that Blink 182?"

I once partied with Jen Coolidge in Nola. Didn’t bring up the fact that I spanked it many times to her Milf action in American Pie, which came out the year I graduated high school. Life is a full circle.

IIRC, isn't there a Blink-182 cameo in there where they're watching the webcam?

And the early Casey Affleck appearance also.

Oh without a doubt, she already knew.

He was Kevin's older brother:

never even knew there was another after American wedding?

Just looked it up and American reunion came out almost 10 years later while I was in high school and I never even heard of it. Guessing it must’ve been a bust based off the ratings. I was little when American pie franchise came out but i loved watching those and the Adam Sandler movies of the 90s-early 00s with my older siblings and cousins. I still joke with them over all those movies today.

Guess I won’t risk ruining the series by watching Reunion but I’ll readily watch the first one and Wedding again to celebrate.

Is it a pretty unanimous ranking for everyone?

1. American Pie
2. Wedding
3. American Pie 2
4. Reunion

My gf at the time made me promise I wouldn’t bring it up. Kinda wish I had now.

It's not terrible. It's in the same comedy vein as the first three, albeit a bit weaker. But the chick in it that gets naked is one of the hottest in any of the four movies though. She is absolute smoke.

Not terrible and naked hot chicks is enough for me. As long as it’s the same main characters sounds worthy

It truly was a great movie. It gave us the term MILF, which I still hold true to this day that it’s meant for “a mom” you know, not an older woman like it’s used now.

Actually caught a marathon of these movies on TV the fourth of July and watched bits and pieces while I was in and out of the hotel room.

I think besides the original, the reunion movie is my favorite

Yeah it's beej awhile since I've watched Reunion, but i feel the same. The weakest of the "originals" but still funny and some decent nods to the earlier films.

Its definitely better than the spinoffs, worth a watch if you are in the mood for that kinda comedy.

American Pie > American Pie 2 > American Reunion > American Wedding

The first two are awesome
