Trump, .223 bullet related question.

I’ve got an AR-15 but unfortunately haven’t shot it as much as I’d like to and only out to 100 yards.
Eric Prince of Blackwater fame was commenting that “a 5 mph wind and a bad estimate by the would be assassin saved Trump.” He also mentioned it was likely a 55 grain bullet.
Would a 5 mph wind have that much effect on a 55 grain .223 or 5.56 bullet at less than 150 yards?
I know it definitely has a big effect on drift at longer distances, but 5 mph at less than 150 yards?
What say you?

I'd say the deflection was probably less than 2 inches.

Shooter could have been a bad shot or gun wasn’t a tack driver in the first place. And he was probably pretty nervous to attempt a shot at a former president

WTF? Why am I being downvoted for this? That’s what those leftist retards think, he’s literally Hitler to them.

quote:True, but the point is, even if his aim were true, the bullet may have drifted some to allow the near miss.

What is not being said is a "mil spec" AR15 has a typical trigger pull of about 6-7 pounds and most inexperienced shooters will jerk the trigger and pull off the target.
I think the shooter missing was far more attributed to not having much experience than anything else.

My take on reading his comments, he’s really just making the point that the shooter got close enough that a little windage, not drop, was all he was off by. He doesn’t know the actual wind speed, bullet weight, or BC to say how much effect it had, more so just that the dude should have never been able to get that close. If the guy was using irons as I’ve seen get thrown around, he may have been aiming center mass and yanked the trigger, at which point it’s all just semantics.
If you’re wondering if 223 in particular gets pushed around more than other cartridges, it’s not much worse or better than anything else it just depends on the bullet used. Being a bit higher velocity gives the wind less time to act, but a smaller less aerodynamic bullet can be influenced more than a long heavy one, which is generally slower. Minimizing wind deflection has led to lots of handloading and new cartridge development, and is prettymuch why the creedmoors exist.

Exactly, wind was not a factor at that distance. Period !!!

Did wind blow the SS sniper’s bullets off target.
Two pound trigger with rifle on a tripod = one right through his head.
Don’t give me the wind BS

Manufacturer, caliber and optics if any.

If he knew how to shoot, Trump is dead.
Luckily he was just a retard soy boy who had probably fired less than a fullmagazine through that rifle in his life, if even that much.

You're 100% right.
He couldn't hold a steady shot between potential inexperience and probable nerves/exhaustion.
Head shots are fun for TV and video games, but center mass is effective and more forgiving.
I'd say Trump was extremely lucky, but as one of friends said once, "I'd be luckier if it was a 1/4 inch the other way and didn't hit me at all"
Whole thing is crazy. We look 3rd world. That security recon team and security lead should be fired. One look at the overhead and the threats (outside of crowd) are clear. Lots of questions. Not going to be great answers

I think it’s a pretty big assumption to say he was going for a headshot and wasn’t just a bad shot, but we’ll never know. Either way it’s a failure by the SS.

Whole security element. Ss has the sweep and assignments, but also depend on other agencies and local LEOs.
There was either individual negligence or a complete failure.
Will be interesting to see the report, if it's ever seen.
