Final Bush Hog Of The Season

What's the earliest I can bush hog before getting ready to plant food plots? There may be several weeks in between (waiting on rain, etc) and camp is several hours away. When is the earliest I can bush hog and not worry about the grass growing too much before it dies off for the season? Greenwood, MS area.

Gonna depend entirely on rainfall and temps. We usually clip and spray on labor day weekend and sometimes it’s still dead when we go back in late sept, sometimes it looks like we never touched it. I sprayed fields about six weeks ago to control Johnson grass and they’re tall again with all this rain.

I bushhog plots in June , August , and then again around Labor Day. I’ll spray after the last cutting and disk once it’s dead. I usually disk it twice after spraying. Then I’ll disk it a day or 2 of before planting plots.
I’ll usually bushhog the roads one last time in October .

I like to burn a month or so after killing it in august
burning kills army worms, ads nutrients and boost the ph a bit..

My plan is to cut and spray after the velvet bow weekend mid September. Go back in 2-3 weeks and disc/plant if there is rain in the forecast.

I personally always wait until October to plant because there have been a lot of times in the last 10 years where we didn’t get rain in September or October

We normally don’t cut before Labor Day to be as safe as we can with fawns in fields. We want them mobile not still in the sit tight no matter what stage. Then we plant first 2-3 weeks in October depending on weather.

First of October is a good rule of thumb. Issue isn't grass growing as much as army worms destroying the crop you are planting. If you disc then grass shouldn't be an issue.
