With the recent thread about the Napoleon Director's cut dropping and the trend of so many movies getting alternate cuts released I've been thinking of what movies should I go back and rewatch.

I ran across this about Waterworld

quote:

The Waterworld "Ulysses Cut" adds depth and a more complete experience to the original movie, making it more involving for viewers.

The "Ulysses Cut" fleshes out the world-building and key plot points, such as the discovery of Mount Everest, while also showcasing an unsympathetic yet intriguing hero in the Mariner.

Anyone have an opinion?

The Snyder Cut of Justice League was definitely an improvement (not out of this world but an improvement) and the extended LOTR Trilogy is a no brainer because more LOTR is always good but what others actually improve the move and aren't a grab at more sales/views?

Has anyone actually watched the extended Rebel Moon movies to see if it improved it any? It is hard to invest more time in a movie you didn't care for to see if it improved, it seems most people only watch the extended cut if they like the theatrical version and I wonder if that causes us to miss out.

The running for GOAT is typically seen as one of the following:

1. Blade Runner (Final Cut)
2. Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut)
3. Brazil (although most people didn't see the truly shitty version)
4. Dark City (Director's Cut)
5. Alien 3 (Assembly Cut)
6. Lord of the Rings (Extended Editions)

Honorable Mentions (most of these are allegedly b/c I have not seen them all, but I have done research):

Troy
Almost Famous
Heaven's Gate
Aliens (have seen, prefer the theatrical)
T2 (have seen, prefer the theatrical)
Apocalypse Now (Redux)
Apocalypse Now (Final. I prefer Redux but I'm in the minority)

Not eligible: Any Zach Snyder movie

The Snyder cut of Batman v Superman was also much better than the theatrical version.

The directors cut of Kingdom of Heaven was significantly better that the theatrical version.

Saw it and agree.

. Alien 3 (Assembly Cut)

Thought the theatrical was a bit of a letdown and it has been a long time, so I will check it out.

Lord of the Rings (Extended Editions)

Should be on everyone's list

I have not seen it but I can guarantee a different cut of that reductive garbage isn’t making a difference

The two versions of "Payback" are VERY different, and I thoroughly enjoyed both. I prefer the theatrical release over the director's cut, but not drastically so.

I'm inclined to agree but for some odd reason I feel compelled to give it a chance one day. Maybe watch it like MST3K style with friends while drunk.

Didn't know there was a Director's Cut and I loved the theatrical, I'll check it out.

Lol at the Snyder hate. I actually posted about watching the Snyder cut of Rebel Moon a week ago and it was the first post could find in 8 months since the original. I don’t know that anybody even commented when the second one came out.

Unlike Justice league (I’d call the Wheedon version a 5) or watchmen (I’d call the OG a 7) where they took not entirely bad movies but made them much better, the Snyder cut of Rebel Moon took a 2 to maybe a 5 at best and added boobs and more violence.

Didn’t love it but it was better and more fleshed out. The slo-mo harvesting scenes were gratuitous but I don’t know if that was in the original version of the second one because I skipped it.

I will say that I’m a moderate Snyder fan. I think he’s an exceptionally nice guy that likes to make cool scenes and DGAF about substance. Sometimes that’s ok.

I saw Escape Room 2 and noticed that Deborah Ann Wiloll was listed in the credits even though she wasn’t in it (she was in the first one.). I googled and found out there was a second version and the movie was entirely different in every single way. Can’t find that version and it sounds way better. I think I saw the theatrical cut.

Blade Runner - The Final Cut is really the definitive version now, over the theatrical, "Director's" and Road Show versions.

Also, in the minority, but I'm partial to the Redux version of Apocalypse Now !
