Just watch him slow a LB (who probably outweighs him by 50-100 lbs) enough... without holding... for Kamara to get the edge for a 1st down on the play Nowak highlights here

This is what you look for in a WR in a run heavy based scheme. Still crazy to me tho that he managed to make the team without playing in a single pre season game. I guess it was plays like this in practice that won him his spot

Also... Tipton was the player you see at the end of Kamara's screen pass TD just jump in the way of the last Cowboy with any potential shot at tackling Kamara ... slowing him down to guarantee no shot at a TD-saving tackle

And he threw his hands in the air as he did it to make sure he couldn't hold or commit any other type of penalty to negate the TD late

ETA: yes I know everyone is too busy watching Cesar Ruiz rumble down the field the whole way with Kamara & may have missed Tipton's final block

Tipton is WR 3b.

Perry ain't got a whole lot on Tipton at the moment.

Yup. Highlights aren’t the only thing that earn you a spot on the roster. Making the selfless plays that don’t show up on the stat sheet to help your team win will earn you a shot at getting the ball and more playing time.

Agreed. the only thing he has over him is size. Even though he hasn't been targeted much, Tipton runs his routes with maximum effort, and he is surprisingly smooth for an UDFA

Foster also blocked his arse off all game. I think it’s safe to say he’s TE1 in this offense

The future looks bright with Tipton and Means in the fold for four cheap years. We have got to have the youngest WR group in the league.

I was not aware that Tipton ran a fricking 4.34. If he continues blocking like that and works on his route running, this dude could be the missing threat we need at WR. Olave and Shaheed are great but we do need a third guy to step up.

I’m willing to bet Kubiak has some plays drawn up for Tipton with that kind of speed

I think he was actually blocking and celebrating the TD simultaneously. Which is even more awesome, IMO.

Honestly, wide receiver blocking is probably one of the most overlooked and underappreciated aspects of football (at least in terms of fans or the media). It's rarely ever brought up or mentioned before, during or after broadcasts, but having WRs who are willing to put in the effort on plays they're not involved in and get their nose dirty is so immensely valuable over time.

Devery Henderson is a much-beloved Saint who was known primarily during his playing days as a burner that could stretch defenses, but he was also a very willing and capable blocker. On so many of the swing passes, screens, edge runs, etc. that the Saints were known for in those days you can often see Devery out there doing his job and helping spring those plays. It's not anything that will every show up on a stat sheet, but in a game where the difference between winning and losing can often come down to just one big play here or one first down there it's what you need to be a winning franchise.

So we found our new Trequan Smith. With this kind of effort he'll have a long career

It seems like he might even be better than Tre'Quan. He's faster, and is in a better offensive scheme.
