2 movies releasing digitally that I am checking out tonight. The reboot VHS movies have been really good. I am hyped for Katie Siegel's segment. Salem's lot is a King adaptation I do not know much about it, but it looks good. Anything else good come out today?

I saw the good reception for VHS Beyond but I don’t think I’ve seen any of the previous films. Which ones are worth watching?

None of them are very good. But there are stories here and there that are decent. Just a lot of misses and most of the time the main overarching storyline that sets the movie is just weird and not good.

VHS is one that I was absolutely psyched about initially, but then was pretty disappointed in it. And it seems like after the second one each sequel got worse; IIRC VHS2 is the best one I’ve seen. I think I gave up after the 4th one.

Some of the decent segments IMO:

VHS:
Second Honeymoon
The Sick Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger

VHS2:
A Ride in the Park (more for the cool premise than the execution)
Safe Haven
Slumber Party Alien Abduction (pretty well done from what I remember)

VHS Viral:
Parallel Monsters (very cool premise that goes completely sideways and stupid: I only list it here because it’s the only one worth watching)

VHS94:
None really. The Wake is probably the one closest to decent.

Actors have gotten worse at acting like they aren’t acting. Writers worse at writing dialogue like it wasn’t written. Effects are better.

If you’ve never read the book, maybe you will enjoy Salem’s Lot. It’s one of my favorite books and this adaptation is shite. It is rushed, there is zero character development, the casting is dog shite (especially Straker), they leave out the entire overarching theme of the book, and they ruin a great character along with a very powerful scene by making changes that were totally unnecessary. frick that movie.
