I am going to MO to deer hunt first week of november. Hunting a friend of mine's farm up there in Lincoln county. It is a field that is mainly used for duck hunting but there's PLENTY of deer there with a stand on the wood line. I can shoot whatever size deer i want so long as it is a legal MO deer.
They told me that at their friends property (near Lake of the ozarks) they have doe weekend coming up and if they dont get their management goal of does then they said i could hunt the property with them. This property is geared way more for deer hunting but...they only shoot big midwest monsters.
Worried anxiety might get the best of me and i dont want to shoot a "little" buck and leave a bad impression.
What would the baws of the OB do?

I would go where there is a chance of a monster. If the place is laid out and managed for deer then just being there during the rut is worth the experience if you have never done it.

I'd pick the first. I like to be able to shoot a buck that gets me excited and not worry as much about rack size or age. When I hunt on places that allow does or monsters I usually only shoot does unless somebody is with me to say yeah shoot that one. I'm like you, I get anxious and excited and every buck I see is the biggest buck I've ever seen.

Well thats the thing. Both places have monsters. First place is by BK leach and the field is next to 100 acres of woods. Other place is more wooded and in mountainous terrain

Midwest monsters aren’t around Lake of the Ozarks, although I’m sure the area produces some nice bucks. Go where you’ll enjoy the hunt the most.

I have never found a recipe that makes antlers palatable.

That's just North of me. Some big deer up there. I hunt some off the Miss River near Elsberry some. Public.

They have some monsters there. I shot one a little north of 66 that weighed 240.

Are there deer seen in leach often? I will be hunting the private property that borders the wooded part of the area.

I’ve duck hunted BK leach but not deer. It has some great habitat and I’m sure private land that borders it should be good.

I would try to get them to let me come hunt during duck season. Damn a deer - I could kill 3-4 a day with my truck on the way to and from work.

See if they have pictures of the bucks you can or can't shoot. That way if one walks out you'll have an idea of whether you can shoot or not. Of course that depends if they have pictures of said buck.

Well you are coming at the best time to hunt up here. I see most of my bucks week after Halloween. They will be cruising for sure. You never know what is going come out of the Mississippi river bottom woods. There are some monsters in there. Good luck on whatever you decide to do
