Watched it on the United flight, so I’m not sure what streaming service it is on, but it is a damn fascinating documentary.

Talks about how a Cambodian immigrant in the 70’s pretty much revolutionized the donut industry in California and single-handedly was the reason why Dunkin’ Donuts was not able to open their stores there, The documentary talks about the ups and downs of his success.

Definitely worth the watch

It is on Hulu. I watched it a couple of years ago and agree it is very interesting.

I heard Bald Bryan on the Adam Carolla podcast talking about this one a couple years back. Watched it then and enjoyed it very much. Well worth a watch.

Oh sweet, I never knew this movie existed.

But I've been aware of the dominance of Cambodian immigrants in the California donut market for a long time.

Virginia Postrel has been talking about this for decades as an argument against central planning (i.e. no central planner would EVER say "well, you know, I think we have to hand California donuts over to the Cambodians").

The best donut shops in Dallas were run by Asian people. Used to stop at one on Mockingbird by the porn stores and massage parlors on my way to work. Big fluffy donuts with lots of sugary glaze.

Never went in Sam's without seeing some of them with a big dolly loaded down with bags of flour, sugar, cups, coffee, stirrers and everything else they used..

ETA: Thanks for the recommendation. My one year of hulu with ads foe $99 ran out. There was a lot of stuff on there I wanted to watch, but I couldn't handle the ads. I declined their regular price, but cancelled my MAX on MAX and did the hulu, disney, MAX bundle. Since I got rid of the ads I've watched Godfather of Harlem. Sherlock and rewatched the 3rd season of Fargo.

Convinced they put Cocaine in the Coffee like Coca-Cola used to.

Starbucks Coffee is like that dessert coffee that doesn't keep you awake before bed.

Dunkin Donuts is a B-12 shot with a Jolt Cola chaser.

Donut industry is pretty much dominated by the Asian community in Northwest Arkansas as well, with the exception being Rick's Donuts.

The best shops everywhere are run by Asians. Most of the shops around us are Asian owned.

He was a refugee escaping the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge. He ended up sponsoring over 100 displaced families who were brought here by the American Red Cross organization.

Some of their stories are heartbreaking, they talk about some of those on the documentary. A few pics are shown... it's fricking horrible.
