I can't believe we're not talking about DJ Moore walking off the field mid play

Dude was legitimately sitting on the bench before the play was over

Get Up was on Sports Clips this morning (my way of saying I don't ordinarily watch the show) and one of the points everyone agreed on was if you were going to make a fresh start with Caleb Williams, it made no sense bringing back Eberflus. Essentially a pointless season.

Looked like he was limping off then went down out of bounds

Once he steps out he can’t catch the ball (or atleast be the first to touch it) so guessing he was doing that to avoid Williams throwing at him and getting a penalty
Or he just through the play was over when Williams was running into the sideline

their season is cooked too. Brutal schedule to end the season.
Yeah no kidding. All six divisional games plus the niners. Yikes.

I'm not football guy, but if that's the concern then, the play would be to stay on the field but stay in one spot. The defender has to stay on him. He walks off the field, the defender can go help with coverage elsewhere, 1 extra defender on 1 less receiver.
But it's possible he was a bit limpy there.

Eberflus said that Moore knew he stepped out of bounds. He still should have stayed and blocked or something.

So he went to the bench just to be sure he didn't throw him the ball? You know he can re-establish himself in bounds.

In the nfl? I don't think so. Once you've stepped out u cant be the first to touch it

You can’t tho, unless you were forced OOBs by a defender
quote:
d) An eligible receiver who has been out of bounds prior to or during a pass, even if he has re-established himself inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands.
Exception: If an eligible receiver is forced out of bounds by a foul by a defender, including illegal contact, defensive holding, or defensive pass interference, provided he attempts to return inbounds immediately, he becomes eligible to legally touch the pass (without prior touching by another eligible receiver or defender) as soon as he re-establishes himself inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands. See Article 8, Note 3.

The defender should know he’s ineligible as well and likely would stop covering him if he came back into the field of play
It’s pretty commonly taught for WRs to stay out of the play when this happens, to avoid a penalty. Hunter Henry did this same thing more or less on the Drake Maye game tying TD. Went into the back of the endzone and stayed out of the field of play so that his QB knew he wasn’t an option

I forgot they made change when guys were getting pushed out of the endzone.

Super weird play because he wasn't forced out of bounds, nor was he necessarily operating close to the boundary. It almost looks like he makes a small hop like he tweaked an ankle or something.

DJ Moore seems to be an absolute nut job.

I think you can re establish yourself inbounds at the NFL level.

Only if forced out by the defense
