Wife was looking at a Canon but since I've seen some nice pics posted here... why not ask.

The canon sx740 has 40x optical zoom if you want to take decent pictures with a point and shoot camera. Prices have increased a bunch over the years though. You can find an sx720 on eBay for a bit cheaper.

How much do you want to spend?

You can get the Nikon Z5 with the 24-200mm kit lens for less just over $1500. This would give the option to upgrade on lenses in the future if your wife wanted to. It's an entry level, 24 megapixel camera, and shoots 4.5 frames per second (slow for wildlife, but for landscapes, people, or slow moving things it should be fine).

If you wanted something a little cheaper, the Nikon Coolpix cameras aren't too bad.

If you post what she wants to take pictures of I can probably help out a little more.

FYI: The only reason i mentioned Nikon is that's what I shoot with, so I'm not too familiar with the different Canon models.

I am a big fan of the sony alpha mirrorless cameras but all the money should be dropped on appropriate lenses

I really want to steal the sx720 that I bought for my mom so I can keep it in my deer bag

Your wife needs to go and handle all the different models. They all do the same thing close to the same price. She should pick something that fits her hands. You mentioned she has a Nikon camera. Does she have any good glass made by or for Nikon? If so I would stick with Nikon when I used to shoot a lot. I went with Canon and spent close to $10k on 2 bodies and glass. So I won't change from Canon. I recently got back into photography and may go mirrorless.
