I need to replace my 22 year old gas funace, heat exchanger is about gone and it’s cheaper to buy new. I have some quotes one is for a Lennox 97% efficient 2 stage system with 14Seer Ac for $14K. The other is for a Daikin 2 stage system and Daikin Ac at 19k. Those folks recommend a Daikin Modular system for 22k. The Lennox comes with an aiprilaire humidifier where the 2nd company will need to quote that separate. I am likely going with the 14k folks. Anybody go any insight on why going 8k more is a wise choice. Also the Lennox has a 10yr warranty vs 12 on the Daikin.

I have 2 Lennox: EL18XPV-048-230A02 and 2 CBA38MV-048-230-6-03 air handlers and two S40 Smart Thermostats and all in installed was like $31K

Edit: very happy with them so far

I assume neither are variable speed units.

Don't know where you live or if you have/need a generator, but its really nice to have a true variable speed a/c unit.
I got a 4.5 and 3.5 ton Diakan unit about 5 years ago. Have had zero issues, both true variable speed. It's nice to mostly always have some air circulating in the house.
But what's nice is that I can run my small 5750 generator hooked up to my house and I can run one of my a/c along with all the lights and fans and electronics in my house.

I’m in NE Ohio so we set the AC at 78 in the summer and it really only runs hard during july and August. The Furnace is 97% efficient 2 stage with variable speed fan. The AC is a 14 SEER, 4 ton unit it is a single stage unit.

If the OP doesn’t want to spend the coin for a variable speed this can also be accomplished with a soft starter on a single speed or 2-stage unit.

The only other downside to variable speed besides price is proprietary parts. They don’t have the universality that standard units have.

I am going to get the variable speed stage 2 Lennox Furnace, but the AC is a single stage no variable speed fan model. Like I said if lived further south it would make sense but in NE Ohio I don’t think it is justified. I got the price on that system down to 12k after some negotiating this morning with the sales rep. It helped that I was ready to install next week and could pay up front.

I just got 3 quotes this week to replace a 4 ton, $8300 tempstar, $9300 carrier, and $13000 for Daikon. I don't think the price difference was for the units as much as the mark ups by companies.

Personally if you can't get under $14,000 I'd call around. I doubt your area is that much more expensive.

Given that's with a gas heat pump, but that's a lot of money also.

In South Louisiana, just get whichever has the most tonnage.

They use the same cooling numbers for the whole country, but our summers are next level hot.

Yep, its really the humidity not the heat that causes us to need to run the HVAC so much in the south. Low humidity can be comfortable at 74-76*, but high humidity that feels terrible more so because of the humidity than the temps.
