Where did the bridge go?

While I’m not a huge Beatles fan, I’ve always respected the songwriting they did. Those songs, while relatively simple, often contained these really slick bridges that opened up the song to another place.

Of course in the 70’s the bridge was a staple of most pop music.

And then one day it just disappeared.

Where did the bridge go and why did it die?

Why have a bridge when you can spam the hook over and over?

Ah, the vaunted "middle eight". Yes, The Beatles were truly epic at pulling them out of the air and including them.
