Should be one hell of a ride for the next 4 years

President Trump just got on Air Force One for the first time in four years to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.
Random question, but is it Air Force One since he is the President elect? If Biden had to fly somewhere while Trump was in the air would they both be Air Force One?

Without tripping up the stairs

Is probably registered as a Special Air Mission(SAM) flight.

Thanks. I’m sure to 95% of the population the blue and white plane is "Air Force One" no matter who is on it which must be why it was reported that way.

Air Force One is the call sign of any plane the sitting President is flying in.

No. It’s SAM 28000 or 29000 depending on which plane they’re using.

It was a 757.

But Trump isn’t the sitting president is, yet.

Yeah, it's a common misconception. Any fixed wing aircraft carrying the President is AF1. He could be in a single engine Cessna and it would be Air Force One.

Correct. So the call sign of the plane is the plane number. It may be a plane that the President uses, but it won’t be Air Force One until a sitting President is in it.

Has a President elect ever flown on Air Force one before being sworn in?
Answer
No, a President-elect has not flown on Air Force One before being sworn in. The designation "Air Force One" is specifically used for any Air Force aircraft carrying the President of the United States. Before the inauguration, the President-elect would typically use other means of transportation, often including military or commercial aircraft, but these flights would not be under the "Air Force One" call sign since the individual is not yet the President.
However, once sworn in, even if they were to continue on the same flight, the aircraft would then be officially designated as Air Force One for the remainder of that journey. An example of this occurred with President George H.W. Bush, who was sworn in on a plane, thus turning it into Air Force One for the rest of the flight.
