getting reservations will be impossible for the big names but are there any places out there you guys would recommend that might still have openings that are still awesome but under the radar

All those places are going to be packed as well.

Port of Call. Corner of Dauphine and Esplanade.

check opentable.com. That will give you an idea on whats available

Your older restaurants like Antoine's, Arnaud's, and Tujague's have a lot of banquet rooms and extra seating. Try those.

I just checked yesterday - most places Uptown had nothing, unless you're looking between 4-5pm

With all of the congestion there will be cancellations and no shows, use open table, and even walking up to place if close to see what they have.
Earlier or late dinner will be easier, before 6 or after 9.
Last, consider happy hour and bar seating options.

Not a chance man, Esplanade is AB n B alley and it stays crowded on non event weekends.
OP: Check and see if the Health Dept gave Parasol the greenlight on their kitchen, best red beans in the city at one time.

There's more stuff available on Resy and Open that I would have anticipated to be honest

For instance, places like Pigeon and Whale, and Costera had openings

I'll put Beachcorner ahead of Port of Call simply because it's easier to get to, less crowded and the burgers are great.
My wife loves their cheeseburgers and I favor the grilled tuna sandwich on large bun. They cook it to perfection and it is a nice slab of tuna, so you won't be hungry when done.
Beachcorner is on Canal close to the cemeteries and far from the maddening crowd.

But does Beachcorner serve the infamous Monsoon?

It's a well stocked bar but I won't vouch for that drink. I'm pretty sure if there's a recipe for it out there, they can make it.

Yeah, I just booked Baru and Shaya no problem. Granted, I'm looking for 5:30pm.
Definitely seems like Uptown had more openings than downtown. Osteria Lupo, Mister Mao, etc.
