Growing grass after laying down sand

About to lay down a good bit of sand in my yard to take care of a low lying area that tends to hold water on me. Question is what is my best bet to get grass growing in it sooner rather than later. Did this a couple of years ago and still have some bare sandy spots, but I didn't do anything to help. Thanks in advance!

Bermuda will be the fastest growing.

Sod will perform the best.
I prefer zoysia to bermuda.
ETA: Post in the home and garden board as well.

Cover with about 1/2" sand, let the grass grow thru, then repeat until it's the grade you want.
Everyone can only live with so much sand on them.
Yes, takes more time, but you asked.

Don't know the variety but I have some zoysia that was in centipede sod that was laid 10 years ago. That stuff is taking over the whole place and will grow in any soil type and in any sun/shade conditions. The damn stuff will grow on concrete if left to its own means.

Mix in a good bit of top soil w the sand and fertilize before putting it down.
But if doing it now your lawn is likely still dormant for winter. Need to wait for spring.
