I’ll post my response in the linked thread above.

A new spot I’m trying next week is Armour House. Looks really good so we will see. Also, for breakfast diner hit up Salems in Homewood

———————————————————

Surin is my favorite Thai place but I have tried them all

Automatic seafood or hot & hot fish club

Gianmarcos, bottega or la fresca for Italian

Pizzeria gm or slims for pizza

Perry’s, Helen or little Betty’s for steak. We do have normal chains ie Ruth Chris, Fleming if you want to go the chain steakhouse route. Get the iberico presa at Helen

My favorite bbq is saws but there are a lot of good bbq places in bham

I like the olive branch for greek/med option.

La Paz or el barrio for Mexican

Other places I like are rougaroux, local 39, paramount sports bar, oteys tavern (local bar/grill), blueprint on 3rd, Bettola and ovenbird.

That thread has a lot of good discussion and recs.

Couple new places that have opened since then that are very good:

Armour House - steak house & seafood bar (on the expensive side but very good and very cool atmosphere). It and Helen are probably my favorite pure steak houses in town.

Current Charcoal Grill - Upscale Asian fusion. Menu rotates but usually have a few traditional dishes and some more modern twists

ETA: I always say, if you have one meal, go to El Barrio and you won't be disappointed. It is simple, great food, and very reasonable. Get their queso, add chorizo if you like chorizo. They have a ton of good options, but their Carne Asada steak is dynamite. It is in a great location with a lot of cool bars within walking distance, one even right next door, to hit up before or after.

Bettola

One of my favorite spots. Their carbonara is fantastic, as are their pizzas. Their flatbread is phenomenal as well.

Can't remember when they opened, so it may have been after that post, but Pizza Grace is fantastic as well.

Wife and I loved it. Like Helen or Little Betty, you'll spend a pretty penny, but I wasn't disappointed.
