This guy has been pretty influential in the business of U.S. made, acoustic stringed instruments, for at least 3 decades.
He tells some history and funny stories about that. Gives some insight into how difficult it can be.

I changed strings a few times and changed the sounding post in an upright bass once, but my name isn't Martin, Luther nor King.
