New Orleans Saints: Drafting Kelvin Banks Jr.

The lack of high-end quarterback talent in the 2025 NFL Draft provided the Saints, who picked ninth overall, with a conundrum. In the end, they made the correct decision in drafting their new left tackle, Kelvin Banks Jr. New Orleans earned the lowest PFF pass-blocking grade in the NFL last season. No quarterback would have been able to succeed behind that anyway.

Banks earned an outstanding 89.9 PFF pass-blocking grade in his final season at Texas. His presence also allows Taliese Fuaga to move back to his natural position at right tackle. If the Saints are going to build an elite offensive attack over the next few seasons, Banks and Fuaga will be crucial components.

I like the direction that CKM is taking the team. Bolstering the o-line to focus on the run game will help take some of the pressure off of whichever young QB ends up behind the center. Establishing the run game also helps our aging defense by eating up the clock and minimizing the time our def. is on the field. win-win. Here is a link to PFF College Football show analysis of Kelvin Banks.

Can’t argue with it. I think it elevates two positions, b/c Fuaga will be a top 5 right tackle soon enough with the move.

Hopefully they become a star duo for us. Idk why, but I keep seeing people from the outside having negative opinions about Fuaga... I thought he was great last year..

Would be nice if Penning became a stud G as well. That would be huge for us, with McCoy likely the best or one of the best Centers in the NFL. Something we can build on for sure.

Because the QB play was absolutely ATROCIOUS. The tackles held up and guys like Rattler still took sacks and got blamed for him holding on too long.

The same people are not ripping on Olu Fashanu or JC Latham (picked higher) for being equally mediocre or worse.

Or guys struggling picked in the first round as well:
Amarius Mims - 18th - RT played worse
Troy Fautanu - 20th - played 1 game
Jordan Morgan - 25th - played 6 games
Tyler Guyton - 29th - also inbetween swapping b/w Right and left.

Fuaga struggled a bit earlier in the season likely from working in a makeshift injured line up but showed a lot of improvement and eventually was ranked in the top 5 rookie tackles by PFF by the end of the year. It is exceedingly difficult to come in and start as a rookie tackle. There is a steep learning curve to overcome. Terron Armstead was a backup until near the end of his rookie season.
