to get to his house through the flood waters a few days after Katrina made landfall?

Old Jefferson goes in the house alone and comes out with 2 giant sacks that are tied up tight.

That guy was a piece of work.

That’s my Katrina story.

He took the term "cold cash" a bit too literally.

I was honestly hoping we were talking about William Jefferson the somewhat-recent President.

His nickname on the Hill was "Cold Cash Bill".

Wasn't the cold cash from his freezer one of the things that lead to his prison term and (somehow, still don't understand) to the loss of voter support.

The truck he commandeered was notionally mine. He went through Nagin. They got stuck in front of his house and I had to send another truck to pull them out. This was during a time where resources were extremely limited.

He lost his support because all his voters had left town…

Yep.

I met with him (and other legislators)on a lobbying trip not long after it happened. We all knew there wouldn't be too more many DC meetings in his future.
