Ernest Scared Stupid quick thought

I saw this was on Prime last night so being that it's October and I haven't seen it in probably 25 years I wanted the nostalgia so fired it on up. As a kid I LOVED this movie and as kids tend to do, anyone that was in opposition to Ernest or upset with him in any way was seen as the "bad guy" or a jerk. Man, what a difference a few decades makes ha.
The town sheriff and mayor have been begging Ernest, the town's garbage man, for WEEKS to clean up the garbage dump of a property belonging to the old lady and he hasn't done it. At the beginning of the movie Ernest is on the move, in his garbage truck (with kids in the cab with him) and the sherriff is like "Ernest! Clean up! Not later, now...what are you even doing!?" and his answer was having to go build a tree house. These guys aren't jerks at all, they're simply asking Ernest to perform the services he's presumably paid to do.
Also LOL at the thought of the town children hanging out in the woods after school with the garbage man. That sure wouldn't fly in real life.

Easily my favorite part of the movie. My five year old LOVES this movie and asks to watch it all the time. So now that it's October I suspect I'll finally have to cave in and let him start putting it back on again.

Ernest obviously worked for the government so his emeritus and laziness are inherent. This is just another example on why the government needs to be shut down for a bit.
