When big change happens, it is usually the result of a lot of small changes that finally added up. Note to Alleva. No pun intended, but the ball is in your court. Don't turn it over!

LSU hired Trent Johnson as its basketball coach just nine months ago, but the Baton Rouge community’s perception of the LSU program has already improved. Presented with the opportunity to watch a driven team led by a classy leader, the dormant LSU hoops nation has responded with newfound support.
Unfortunately, years of apathy and questionable decision-making by athletic department officials has already diminished the possibility that the once-feared “Deaf Dome” can again become one of college basketball’s premier arenas.
Yes, money was spent to improve the facility’s leaky roof and antiquated seats. However, the lifeblood of any college sporting arena — the student section — has been relegated to second-tier status. Rows of seats for high-dollar ticket holders now separate even the closest students from the game, and much of the student section alongside the court was reclaimed for paying tickets, resulting in most students being relocated to the far corners of the arena.

Too deep for me. Say what? Or, as Monica Lewinsky said.... "come again"?
EDIT: My bad. I see your point.

Definitely a good read. The writer is 100% correct in his conclusion as well.
Though attendance may be down, typically, in November/December, I think a good argument could be made that this lack of attendance will improve as both the basketball program re-establishes itself and if the Athletic Department takes heed of the advice and the article - improving the atmosphere of the PMAC.
I would really be interested if someone could point out a consistently well-performing basketball team that has a seating configuration for their students that is greatly similar to our's.

When I lived in Baton Rouge, I had season tickets during the great days of the Deaf Dome.
The students had a good section back then and they were the life of LSU spirit.
I know that most decisions are made with profit in mind, but without the spirit of the students, the show just isn't the same.
A good roudy, spirit filled student section is part of the show. It would be a wise move to showcase our Student fans.

Where were the students earlier in the year and in past years?
We start winning, students show up. Same can be said for season ticketholders, but LSU makes money off them no matter what they do. Not true for students.
Students need to prove they will support this program before they get better seats.

i hate the "students arent in session" excuse. we arent a remote school like washington state. a large number of our students are from BR and the immediate area anyway, and more than ever i would assume stay here over winter break as on campus housing has decreased and off campus apts have grown

Hiring Alleva may prove to be even better than anyone originally could have thought

The students have some of the best seats in the house. Any move to courtside is going to put them behind one of the goals... which will not be nearly as intimidating throughout the game.
It is also ridiculous to suggest that this would improve student attendance.

Regardless of if they consistently show up, the students ARE what this great university is made of. Without students, you'd have no basketball team to be cheering for in the first place. Ad if you want to talk about money-making, LSU makes tons of money from the students-it's called tuition. They deserve good seating. Geaux Tigers!

At the cost of a hostile environment? Is that your priority?

I don't know, do you? Why does it matter, the money is going to LSU to be used for whatever they please. If you let the students make it a hostile environment, more will come.

Get real. We're 17-1 this year and it has nothing to do with students.

It's 1 year, we're talking about the long haul here, ask the players what they would rather.
