STUART, Fla. (TMX) - A Salvation Army bell ringer was arrested in Florida after allegedly getting intoxicated on the job, harassing passersby and trying to “impale” a Publix manager with the donation kettle tripod, authorities said.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that 63-year-old Steven Pavlik was hired as a Salvation Army bell ringer and was stationed outside a Publix supermarket on Kanner Highway in Stuart when “drunk ringing, belligerent tidings and [assault] took him from bell duty to booking blotter after a full blown charity tirade.”

Pavlik allegedly became intoxicated on duty and began “aggressively confronting” people who walked by, creating a “major disturbance,” according to law enforcement.

When the Publix manager came outside to confront Pavlik, he allegedly “became violent and attempted to impale the manager with the donation kettle tripod,” the sheriff’s office said.

Wait this is a paid position? If it’s voluntary no harm no foul.

A lot of people must have a drunken loser try to stab them around Christmas time.

Our classic car group picks one Saturday during the Christmas season to ring the bells. We park our cars out front and take turns with the bells while interacting with the community. We have a lot of fun with it and it’s just one of the community volunteer projects we are involved with.
