that seems like a waste, keep it off film and save that for a game that matters next year, not a meaningless one this year

Not at all. You aren't keeping anything off film by showing punt formation on first down lol. The actual confusion comes from in the moment substitutions.

You have a punt with your offense on standby to come in and then now have your defense on standby with the conversion but also your entire punt team on the field.

The only way a team doesn't get confused is if they somehow use the same players for defense, offense, and special teams.

The only way to scheme for that is to simultaneously have your best defensive players, OL, and QB on punt formation before you know they will convert or go back into punt formation.
