What failure/not doing something was the biggest reason they regressed that wasn't the state government's fault. (No Huey Long or Edwin Edwards)

Can be election of a mayor, not alluring or keeping a well sought after business, or something ban worthy like section 8 housing.

What was the biggest factor that was controlled by the city that led to it's downfall?

Educate me.

New Orleans: ?
Baton Rouge: No loop?
Shreveport: ?
Lafayette: Not diversifying from O&G?
Lake Charles: Not doing gambling earlier?

*Metairie is technically top 5 but I'm not counting it bc it's a suburb and I'm from LC

Metairie isn’t a city, just a census designated place

Not keeping the momentum of 3rd Street. From around 2006-2014 it was a great place to be and hangout. New bars and restaurants were thriving. Nowadays, it’s nowhere near the cool and fun place to hangout as it was 10-15 years ago.

A lot of the people that live in those cities are really annoying. Hard to be successful when you’re constantly dealing with people that annoy you.

In all honesty Lafayette and the Acadian area have done quite well considering the current state of the oil industry.

The opposite, should have tripled down. Granted it’s not anything they could have done in the last 20-30 years but Laffy could have been what Houston was but LA govt sucks

New Orleans/northshore missing out on the location of Disney World.

The legend is that local politicians wanted bribes, and Walt then eliminated it as a potential location.

Another explanation is that they did not like the exposure to hurricanes, and saw the area still recovering from Betsy in ‘65.

Either way, it was clear that Walt loved Louisiana when he built a New Orleans square in Disneyland.

Pissed away opportunities to be Memphis and Houston.

Sun Records wanted to build a recording studio in town to capitalize on the success of Elvis Presley and the Louisiana Hayride, but the city leaders didn’t want it. Here’s a 15 minute video that some locals produced 10-15 years ago about it Shape of Shreveport

United Gas had its corporate offices in Shreveport- a plane crash that killed some of their executives, along with some well to do Shreveport residents changed the trajectory of business in town Article on the 60th Anniversary of the crash

IMHO S'port has never fully capitalized on The Hayride. In the '50s they could have produced a TV show, like The Opry or the Ozark Jubilee in Springfield MO

Even today you could have a LH Roots Music Festival. Last I heard some old woman controls the LH name, but refuses to do anything w/it.
