As a slight counter, it was open for 5 more days last year than it is this year.

People can sign outside of the window though I thought? They just had to be in the portal during that period of time.

Players can sign with new schools after the main transfer portal window closes on January 16, if their name was already in the portal before the deadline. The window is for entering the portal, not for committing, and players can take their time to choose a school, though they'll miss spring practice if they don't enroll in time.
As you can see from the OP List, many of the Ole Miss signees last winter signed after the window closed on December 28, 2024.

People forget that LK built his OM teams largely from the portal and that is what he is having to do here during a transition year. His gift besides being a great offensive mind, is finding talented players. Diamonds in the rough like Chambliss. Plus OM is still playing and I guarantee you he will pull from their roster once they are done. His offensive staff has done a tremendous job of talent evaluation over the years, we will be fine.

People overreacting to the first few days are not too bright. Lane wants his QB in the boat before going hard on the other positions for a couple important reasons.
1) known budget for remaining players
2) easier to recruit other players when you have a good QB locked in.

Not much, if any. Ole Miss spring practices began around March 18, 2025, with the final practice concluding April 19, 2025.

Interesting. I didn't know that. Some here are in panic mode fearing we'll get a QB who is not able to participate in spring training.
