Life Inside a Town Owned by One Company

Today we’re heading deep into the desert to the largest functioning company town in America where one company owns everything and almost everyone works for it. Most think company towns are a thing of the past, but a few still exist. We’ll explore the town, meet the locals, and see a side of America most never do.
Earning $80K with full health benefits while paying $360 a month rent for a 3-bedroom home sounds pretty compelling actually.

Looks like a good company to work for. Nice infastructure. No crime. Cheap rent.

Democrats would spin this as the new Socialism and this is what it will look like in New York in two years

"you'll own nothing and like it"

Exactly. I only watched the intro but it looks like the sell here is “baw, look how much truck you’ll be able to afford”

I wonder how you're audited if you go outside the town to make a purchase.

So the "owe my sould to the company store" narrator was a lying, commie prick?

They'e better save some money for when a demorat shuts down that mine or market tanks.
All of those people look like normal, non trashy people.

Peter is one of the good ones on YouTube. Anyone from Louisiana that hasn’t watched his series of videos on Louisiana needs to check it out.

Life is about tradeoffs. A company town isn't going to allow you to own the property you live on, but then they also aren't going to allow meth-addicted homeless to clog their sidewalks, aren't going to tolerate families living there who destroy property, etc.

I already watch Halloween 3: Season of the Witch every October.

And the US government doesnt allow me to own the land i live on either.
If you work for somebody else and chase the typical white girl suburban dream, you live in the company town.

Not a bad company. I worked for Rio Tinto, at another copper mine. Wish it would've been FM.

From a housing perspective only, that is exactly how socialism works. My in-laws still live in the their old company condo from back when Yugoslavia existed. Difference was, they never paid rent. After a certain number of years, it became theirs for life and now that socialism is no more in that country, it is still theirs. They never paid a dime for it. It is older now, but you can tell that when it was built, in the late 70's it was a pretty nice flat. 3 bed/1 bath with 3 balconies. Fairly big by European standards.

Sounds like a plan until some arse like Paul Singer grabs enough of a controlling vote on the company board and breaks up the company to sell of parts, or the whole thing outright like he did with Cabelas and destroyed the town of Sidney, Nebraska. A complete abomination of capitalism.
