You still gotta build a team.
If you just chase 5 stars you won’t be where you want to be. Find guys who want to be here and wanna play together.
Indiana, Ole Miss and somewhat Miami very much fit this. All the teams that went after stars are not where they want to be.

Football is different now and idk how old you are but Jacob Hester was a 3 star. He turned out to be pretty amazing.

Everybody on Indiana is above 5 years in college. That doesn't feel right. you cannot be in college for more than 4 years. Only 5 players on IN are below 20. The brain development for above 20 is massive

Jarvis landry was also a 3 star I believe and he was a dawg, they wanted to play for lsu

You also have to spend a lot of money on a roster— like Miami and Oregon has over the last couple of years.
Crazy they’re two of the last three teams left.

That’s the key .. they wanted to. I hate what it’s become. I get it but I don’t like it.

Build a team that wants to be there. Like Indiana. Right Kirk. The same Indiana being bank rolled by Cuban? Lol

Right, but idk why you’re making it out to be a bad thing. Remember Flynn, Hester, Dorsey, Steltz, Doucet etc?

With NIL and the portal, the days of having a team comprised mostly of homegrown players is probably over.
They're hired guns now, just like the NFL.

You think anyone over 20 years old is on their 5th year? You realize most people turn 20 during their sophomore year right?

Carson Beck is currently in his 6th year of college football

Yeah, Miami told Kirk “hold my beer”
Posted on 1/8/26 at 11:02 pm to IntenseKid

I think it’s the experienced guys that get you where you want to be. That’s why it was always the heavy junior and senior led teams that won natties. Obviously it’s starts with the QB but everything else just needs to fit together well.
5 3-4 star receivers with experience and significant playing time is better than 4-5 stars top 60 players that have 0-8 catches. Thats why those guys transferred out and Kiffin brought in those other guys. I bet they were relatively cheap too.
ETA. Having a couple stars doesn’t hurt having too many just doesn’t seem to work.
Even some of Miami players besides Beck are not huge names that I can remember.
Spend money on decent quantity vs a couple with high quality.
