Why do these encampments always sprout up during the protests in the wake of officer involved shootings?
Is it as simple as maintaining a position against LE trying to break up the protests or do they genuinely believe they are occupying that land now?
(Dry Christmas trees and pallets as fortification is a bold choice)

You need enough degenerates with little to lose to come out and set these up and man them 24/7. A few people can get overwhelmed by a police force. A large amount will force a police force to stand down and wait it out or use other tactics

CHAZ/CHOP lasted about three weeks before it went Lord of the Flies, and that was during the summer.
Rabid progressive protestors aren't known for their ability to withstand prolonged discomfort. It's not going to be above freezing there until Monday and then after Tuesday's highs they'll be back below freezing until at least next weekend (next weekend's highs aren't expected to even get into the 20s).
Fire safety is going to be a much bigger threat for them than ICE.
