Looking for any recs for casual, comfort food in Los Angeles. I will be staying downtown near the convention center.

Depending on the time of day and traffic a couple places about 15 minutes away. LINK Philippes claim to be the home of the french dip sandwich. Food is good, and great atmosphere. It's a couple minutes from Dodger Stadium so before a game it's always packed.
And a 10 minute walk from there would get you to Olvera street, a place with vendors and food.

Moo's Craft BBQ is up there with any Tx BBQ place. The mac-n-cheese is probably the best I've ever had.
Duchess. Chicken sandwiches and Donuts. Last time I ate there it was called "Birdies" but the menu seems to be similar.
Also a lot of good ethnic options in Grand Central Market.
