Per Perfect Game…
Not sure how they have Schmidt over Evans

1) Curiel
12) Schmidt
14) Evans

SEC is stacked. 6 of the top 10 and 16 of the top 25. 8 different teams, 5 with multiple entries.

You can quibble with individual rankings here or there, but really I’m just struck by how strong this class is nationally. That list is loaded, regardless of if they got every placement right.

Yeah but Schmidt over Evans is a crime and there really is no rationale to explain it but nonetheless gonna be a fun year

Yeah, any rationale to explain would be based on potential outcomes so far down the road that it’s useless. Evans’ delivery carries a little more reliever risk than Schmidt’s. But that “reliever risk” is a term used to describe that a guy who is a starter in college may have to move to the bullpen in, or to make, the majors. So, useless.

As a rating of who is poised to have a better sophomore season, Evans absolutely should be above Schmidt.

I'll play devil's advocate: Schmidt has first round stuff, and some electric pitches. They may think that Evans is close to his ceiling

Schmidt’s ceiling is through the roof.

They either 1. Expect Schmidt to explode this year or 2. did not watch close enough during the CWS. Because having Schmidt over Evans is a bold move.
