The biggest factor that got Lane to LSU was the high school recruits and the stronger foundation he could build with it opposed to having to do what we see this cycle in the portal. Imagine a better high school foundation and then all the money being able to be spent on the top players rather than half a roster.

It will be nice with a solid foundation to one day only need a handful of transfers and be able to $plurge on a 5-star+ at, say, EDGE, OT, CB, LB or DT in one portal class.

Top notch OL and DL typically do not enter the portal. HS recruiting for the big uglies is still where the bread is buttered.
