The first 2 episodes dropped today. Many Trek fans have had extremely strong negative feelings about this new show (myself included) so now that it's out let's talk about it. Let's hold off on any major spoilers until page 2.

I watched the first episode with full expectations off not liking it and nitpicking it to death. I'm going to call it a mixed bag. The first 20 minutes opened up like a typical Star Trek story and after that it shifted and we started seeing the characters get introduced.

Elastigirl does a good good job and looks good for her age. The way she sits in the Captains chair it's very different from every other skipper I've seen.

The fat female Jem'Hadar/Klingon first officer will be a comedic character from what I'm seeing and that's probably a good idea.

Paul Giamatti plays a good psychotic villain.

A lot of characters and storyline to discuss. While I'm still very skeptical I will says it was better than I expected. We'll see.

We'll give it a try. We stuck with Discovery too long and ended up coming back to Picard for the famous third season after passing on season two.

I've read many of your Star Trek themed posts over the years and I suspect you'll see much of this show the same way as I do. Since you invoked Discovery, I will add that this show is somewhat of a sequel to Discovery set 150 years after that show and builds on some of the themes from that show

I'll wait to see what ya'll think about it before thinking about giving it a try. The advertising for this show makes it look terrible.

FWIW, the first Episode is free on Youtube. Funny, only 14,000 views after 10 hours.

Ok Watched first episode. Better than i expected it to be. Some eye rolling moments. But the female Jem Hadar was explained. I liked the captain. Most of the kids were pretty good. The emotional Klingon wasnt over done. I would have rathered the show set around Next Generation time. But the 31st century was cool. Trying to wait to second page to discuss actual plot.

Tried watch this on YouTube. Don’t know why but the sound quality was trash. The set ups and premise of the story were ridiculous. Because food? Really ? A single mother ( where’s dad?) & her son apparently are the only people in the quadrant who need to resort to crime to eat.

Why a judge is so bent out of shape for having to properly sentence a woman who took part in a felony crime, it makes no sense. This is the best the writers could come up with?

She was doing her job, she says she resigns in disgrace? How, where, what the hell is she talking about?

I made as far as the prison ship not crash landing. Why was there an exposition where we randomly hear this kid’s life story - after it’s 15 years later. The audience isn’t going to put the pieces together are we? No, we have to have a visual resume flash before our eyes.

This is so bad.

It's not even the fact that she's a miserable, self hating lesbian, which is very clear in that dialogue. That acting is barely C level. She shouldn't even be doing Sykrizi commercials, much less this character.

I finished the 2nd episode. I got the impression that this will be more of the typical style each episode will be.

One thing that I've noticed is these cadets are much older and really adept compared to the teenagers that were smart but very inexperienced from the days of Wesley Crusher and Nog. This new crop is old enough to have graduated and should be serving..

Since I didn't finish Discovery I had to read up on what "The Burn" was all about and how it affected the Federation and it sucks. Since 2009, the owners of the Star Trek franchise have had this annihilation fantasy starting with the destruction of Romulus and the Federation....

We'll be at page 2 soon soon we can vent...

"The Burn"

One of the all time worst story choices introduced to all sci-fi. Deus ex machina contrivance which basically cleans the slate, or was meant to. The idiots don't recognize that not ALL space traveling civilizations used dilithium crystals to power their ships.

Even IF such an absurd event could take place, it wouldn't END space travel for very long, certainly not 100's of years or whatever. But the 'tards who are writing current day Trek have no clue or interest in honoring the source material .

I don't like the concept of three burn either.
I didn't like Discovery. But this show isn't as bad as I was anticipating. The second episode was a theme that other treks have done.
The no spoilers to page two is a dumb rule btw.

Are the lesbians just regular lesbians or some kind of futuristic space lesbians?
